Lava rock, will survive fire after fire after fire.I am going to use them for camping on my Wolf and Grizzly portable fire pit to cook on. Might be too porous for that, but we'll see. Meat should be fine, just nothing runny obviously. They came in a box, wrapped with bubble pack. That bit I'm a little curious about, seeing how they *are* rocks and there is no worry about breakage. Perhaps just to keep them from shifting in the box I suppose. At any rate, they were well packed in the box. They arrived in side of a heavy duty plastic bag sealed at both ends. If I find they won't work for that idea (too porous) I'll use them on my gas grill! They'll have a use one way or another.

I didn't want to spend the money for these lava rocks. You can get your typical red jagged lava rock pretty cheap, but I generally don't find this color, size, or shape locally. So I went ahead and spent the money, and happy I did. These rocks look fantastic in the fish tank, especially against a light sand substrate. Added bonus is that the pours promote the growth of beneficial bacteria. They do come out of the bag extremely dusty and look much lighter. I gave them a quick rinse in tap water and put them right in the tank.

Look great when unused but then some rocks stay really black like a piece of used charcoal. They are expensive, one #10 bag wasn't quite enough for one fireplace to cover the gas lines. I bought the 3-5” rocks. They look better than logs tho so will continue to buy!
