how many amps does it draw?

Thank you for your question. The rated for amperage for this Hamilton Beach appliance is 15 amps.

Is it ok to fill the fryer with less oil than the capacity stated? I don't use for large amounts of food at a time.

I’m not sure. I used mine to prepare for a large group so I filled it to capacity.

Great Deep Fryer for Home Use

I’ve been using this deep fryer for a long time, and it has worked great. It heats up quickly, cooks food evenly, and is easy to clean. It’s perfect for making fries, chicken, and other fried foods at home. I’m very happy with its performance.
