At first I gave this product only four stars, as it seemed to work quite well for smaller birds like finches, sparrows, junkos, and the like, but not nearly as effective for larger birds, like jays. However, after a couple of days all our local birds seemed to get re-programmed to avoid the spikes, and hence our deck railings, completely. We were so happy with them that we ordered a second set in order to cover the entire area near our bird feeders which has resulted in a LOT less bird poop on the deck and virtually none on the railings. Because of the width of our railings I had to place two abreast. Black zip ties worked well to attach them without having to drill permanent holes in the railing. Highly recommended and much more aesthetically pleasing than the more common spikes.

Works as described. Excessive packaging, expensive for all plastic.
