Great Mic For a Solo Artist
I added this microphone to my extensive collection. I have a lot of classic mics that I've collected since the 80's. I wanted to try a modeling mic but wanted a small one for my desk. I did not need a multipattern mic at my desk and that might influence your buying choices. This one fit the bill, I have it mounted on a scissor type radio desk mount at my desk for quick access. I find this mic is very clear and stands out when I'm tracking my voice. I use the classic mic models for processing when I'm mixing. On my voice [I'm a baritone] I don't notice the models so much in solo but they do make a HUGE difference in the mix. I've been experimenting with an all virtual studio. I'm a multi-instrumentalist, a producer/engineer with an extensive discography and mostly due to the covid epidemic, I have been unable to build yet another studio. If I had one criticism I would like to see Antelope include a more effective pop filter with this mic.I've had this mic for over a year as of this writing and I have had zero problems. I have used this mic on a solo project and this one has become my favorite and I've replaced all of the other tracks where I've used other mics. I do turn the phantom power off when I'm not using the mic and though it stays on the stand on my desk, it stays covered when not in use. As to the previous negative review all I can say is that there is no manufacturer that has a zero failure rate for their products.

Best bang for your buck!
Bet you didn’t know you could get great sounding recordings out of a small condenser microphone. These are underrated and provide many flavors for one mic, does require Ilok without antelope interface. Beautiful, solid and a workhouse.

Excellent All Purpose Mic
I own both this mic and the Slate ML-1. I have to say that I mostly prefer the Slate due to the flexibility of the software and the emulations themselves. It’s really up to personal preference, I suppose. But I do like the sound of Slate’s emulations better when comparing the two back to back. Making them more subtle like Antelope did with theirs seems like an odd choice to me, a feature where you can increase or decrease the effect of the emulation seems severely missing from Antelope’s software after getting used to it on the Slate. That said, this is a great mic on its own. The biggest advantage for me personally over the Slate is that I am able to use the emulations outside of my DAW with my Antelope Zen Go. The other huge advantage over the Slate is the sheer number of emulations. There are a lot. On the ML-1, they only included the top tier $10k+ mics. The Antelope has most of those and many more such as the SM7b and RE20. The area where I think the Slate comes short is as a voiceover/podcast mic. I’m usually singing, but I also regularly make the rounds on podcasts or do voice overs for videos I create. When I compared the Antelope to the Slate for voice over work, it blew it out of the water. One issue I have with the Slate is that the consonants can often be way too much. With less top end, this mic doesn’t have that issue. However, that also means the Slate has a bit more energy in the sound.Antelope’s best emulation is the SM7b. It does a killer job of emulating that mic, largely due to the proximity effect this mic has. It actually behaves very similarly to the SM7b which is known for having a more pronounced low end when you get close to the mic. The Antelope does the same and when you use it with the SM7b emulation, it mimics the mic extremely well.Overall, you can’t go wrong here. And for the price, you’re getting a killer mic locker along with it with makes is an excellent value.
