It should work well in a soda stream. It's fairly concentrated, I use 1.5oz per gallon so it would probably be just a tablespoon or two for a liter. You will also need to add sugar since it's not sweetened.

What name brand root beer is the flavor closest to?

It has a nice bright/sharp flavor, plenty of the wintergreen. I’d say Barq’s is the closest. Not as smooth vanilla-y as A&W’s. I love it. Works perfectly for my home brew.
