The Phantom of the Opera: The Graphic Novel
A**N
A Must-Have for Phantom Phans
This graphic novel abridges Gaston Leroux’s “The Phantom of the Opera” and improves it in the process — the prose fits far better into the 21st century than Leroux’s does. Nonetheless, I recommend familiarity with the original because, in a few spots, there are references that are not explained within the graphic novel, specifically who Mauclair is (operator of the gas lighting system) and what the Persian’s title (the daroga) signifies.Varga Tomi’s illustrations are extraordinary. He succeeds in showing the increased stress through dark circles under Christine’s eyes. He also captures the horror of the original Leroux tale — Erik does look like a death head here, and not the half-scarred individual of the Broadway musical who, while damaged, is obviously human. The illustrations are no simple comic book outlines, but true portraits worthy of hanging on walls. I expecially like the elongated body style he adopts, similar to that of El Greco. This book is to be savored, and returned to again and again to help readers re-immerse themselves in the world of Leroux’s Erik. Every Phantom Phan must include this graphic novel in his or her library.

The tragic love story of the Opera Ghost Erik!
Erik who loved Christine Daae, who just wanted to be loved deeply like any other human, the incredible genius of the man Erik is a great mystery. He who tragically died for his protégé Christine! Erik is no monster but a beautiful person inside and out had he been a real person instead of a fictional character I am sure he would have found true love with someone. No one deserves to be tormented like Erik no one should be cursed because of their face! 1800s what a vile and hateful world to have lived in if you were not beautiful! Curse Raoul and Christine Daae!

Masterfully creative Phantom Story
A must for any phantom fan!! Beautifully illustrated rendition of Gaston Leroux’s original book. Though poor Erik’s countenance is still quite hideous and scary, his tale continues to tug at the heart strings! Highly recommend this artistic fantasy to all!

Awesome
I got this for my sister for Christmas, and she loved it. I love that it's based on the OG book and not the musical, and the art style is so dark and eclectic in the most beautiful way. My sister knows everything about both The Phantom of the Opera and comics, and she loved it.

A lovely graphic novel of the classic story
The art and coloring is very good and it is a fairly accurate retelling of the original story.
