Is this mower actually twice as powerful when running with two batteries vs. one? I could not find the power specs.

You will not see double the voltage or power, just double the run time. The batteries are working parallel with each other to extend it. You can run this mower with just one battery as well.

Why doesn’t ego customer service ever return phone calls and why do they have an “f” rating with bbb?

That they are swamped with calls suggests either of a few things: a- too few reps, b- poor product quality, c- user is inept or has unrealistic expectations, d- any combination of the three.
