Not sure but would depend mostly on the strength of the metal you put it into.

Do you need a special tool for this or can you just screw a bolt in and go?

Can't screw the bolt in and go. You're supposed to have a special tool but my husband devised his own.

How will I know when to stop tightening these into my base material? I'm installing with a ratchet wrench, is there a torque I can set my wrench to?

There's no actual torque setting, but typically when setting the insert, and being that the insert is pre-bulbed, once the insert is tight you will feel a noticeable increase in turning pressure - signifying the insert is tight.

Does this come with the small setting tool

No. I didn’t receive a tool. I used a bigger size nut and washer to set on top and screwed bolt into shank to set them.
