Ideal Balance Between Protection, Coverage Area and Fit & Feel
I've found these knee pads to provide the ideal balance between PROTECTION, COVERAGE AREA and FIT & FEEL. And all of this at what I believe to be an excellent price point. Although I'm writing this review from the perspective of a soccer player, I think my critique would be helpful for other applications: home improvement projects, automotive repair, construction, hunting, snowboarding, volleyball, among others. As my team's soccer goalie, I've cycled through several different brands of knee pads to protect myself from hard dives to the turf. What I've discovered is that each brand of knee pad presents varying trade-offs between three factors: 1) PROTECTION. If your primary concern is protecting your knees from impacts with the field, turf or hardwood playing surfaces, then you'll want to select a bulkier knee pad -- either one with very thick padding, or perhaps even one with a hard outer shell. Those types of bulky knee pads do a great job with protection, but the trade-off is that their bulk tends to affect your freedom of movement, your overall mobility. 2) COVERAGE AREA. Sometimes the impact will occur right above or below or to the side of your knee cap. Ideally, you want the knee pad to provide at least some degree of protection to the immediate area surrounding your knee cap. 3) FIT & FEEL. This is a key factor that is often overlooked. The last thing you want to be doing is readjusting the position of your knee pad after every sprint, slide tackle, or impact with the ground. And what if the play is continuing and you don't have time to readjust them? In that instance, with your knee pad askew, it won't even provide you with proper protection and coverage -- which defeats the entire purpose of wearing them! After several practices and games using the "McDavid Hexpad" knee pads, I've found them to provide the best balance between PROTECTION, COVERAGE AREA and FIT & FEEL. Their design is unlike any I'd previously seen. They utilize several nickel-sized pads that are spaced slightly apart to allow for a better range of motion and flexibility. The rest of the fabric is 80% Nylon and 20% Spandex, which allows for excellent flexibility as well as conformity to your body. They hardly ever slip around even after hard impacts and slide tackles. In sum, these knee pads protect you, while also allowing for freedom of movement and a lot of "give." [FYI: I am 6'1 & 185 lbs. I purchased the Size X-Large, and they fit me perfectly. Also, I should note that I've used this product exclusively for knee padding; the manufacturer says they're also functional as elbow pads.] Previously, I'd been using the "Reusch Adult Kevlar Knee Guard," which placed a greater emphasis on protection. And although they protected my knees quite well, they were bulky and limited my movement, range of motion and kicking power. Also, they tended to slip and slide around after nearly every impact, resulting in my having to constantly readjust them mid-game. To reiterate, I've found that the "McDavid Hexpad" knee pads provide the best balance between PROTECTION, COVERAGE AREA and FIT & FEEL. And all of this at what I believe is an excellent price point.

My first pair lasted for close to a decade
Nothing much to say. I bought some years ago and they held up well to my figure skating falls 3 days a week. The fabric eventually got some holes and they didn't look great, but even when slightly compressed after all these years, they protected me pretty well. It was only once I started doing bigger jumps that I realized I needed a fresh pair to offer more protection. They're great, especially for things like figure skating and dance because they're so low profile that they don't ruin your line. (fyi: they feel REALLY snug, or even too tight at first, even if you got the right size, but they acquire 'give' pretty quickly after being taken for a spin.)

Great kneepads but get a mixed review for volleyball.
I purchased two pair of these for my daughters to try for volleyball after I was feeling so tired of the super stinky bacteria harboring fabric that volleyball knee pads are made of! I figured it was worth a shot right? I am torn on how to review them, for one daughter they held up well (she is less prone to diving for balls). The other daughter who is a varsity Libero and constantly diving for balls, they did not hold up as well. They both have loved the fit and they have been put to the test of repeated knee landings and have not had sore or bruised knees. I love the fact that after a very busy club season *THEY DON'T SMELL*!! I am sure the reason that they are not smelling is due to the fabric that they are made of which is why one set has multiple holes. When I asked them What i should buy for the upcoming high school season... They asked me to order more of these, so for comfort and effective they should get 5 stars but for high impact durability they only get 4.

Consider going two sizes up if you want a relaxed fit for knee pads
My goal for these was to use them as backup protection for my knees for snowboarding and figure skating. I wanted them to be a relaxed fit and not too bulky and not impede movement, but to be there to provide a little bit of extra protection in case I fall directly on my knees. Even though I'm an average sized female, I ended up getting a size XXL. The chart placed me at a size L. But they felt way too tight, and I exchanged them for XL, but those felt a little too tight for me as well. So I ended up getting XXL, and those felt pretty good - not too tight but not loose. Maybe for scenarios where perfect comfort is not a priority and you need them to be secure for more impact, just one size up would be good; maybe they'd stretch a little over time. I tried my XXL while snowboarding once and I forgot I had them on but they felt secure. I didn't fall though, so I can't speak to their level of protection. They seem like they would be good for situations where you want some protection but you aren't necessarily looking for a ton of cushion. The reason I chose these knee pads is because they seemed like they cover the sides of the knee a little bit as well. I tried another knee pad that had a lot of cushion in a small area and I felt like it hurt my knee when I tested gently landing on my knees on the carpet, because the knee pad would shift in an awkward way. The XXL I have definitely provides a lot of coverage all around the knee.

Great Hex Pad but Horrible Band!
While I love the hex pad in the knee pads I purchased, it absolutely hurt the back of my knees. I was excited to get these as other knee pads I have tried don’t last or don’t protect my knees well. I wore these for the first time tonight. I work as a Vet Nurse and am continuously on my knees. The pads are definitely the best at keeping the front of knees well protected, but they need to do something with the snugness of the band around the back of the knee. It bunches up and got very painful as my shift wore on. When I took them off it was relief but the back of my knees had red, deep indentations that hurt and burned for an hour or more afterwards. I’m so disappointed in these. I had high hopes but I was too uncomfortable throughout my whole shift and even after taking them off. They need to use their high technology and design a better band to go with the hex pad.

Great for football linemen
My son is an O Lineman in high school. About 6’3 and 290 lbs. His legs are massive. I was looking for something that would go over his knee (had really bad turf burn) but wouldn’t be bulky or restrictive. This did the job. Lightweight. XXL was the size I purchased. Would buy again and definitely recommend.

Great value and protection for your knees
I've used these knee pads for about 2 1/2 years now and can say that they indeed perform as promised. I wear just one on my left knee under baseball pants to protect my knee when I slide or dive for a ball (haven't had the need to wear both at the same time, but I imagine they work fine in tandem). I finally wore out the one I've been wearing and started wearing the other that is still new. For perspective on durability, I play about 2 games a week for about 12-14 weeks out of the year, plus numerous tournament games throughout the year. I'm very pleased with the value and protection these provide. The main reason I've had to discard the one pad is that the hex padding has separated into individual small pieces inside the fabric of the sleeve, so it wasn't as protective as when new. But to get that much wear for the price of $20 a pair is great.

Terrible durability and toughness
UPDATE: Really disappointed to see it only took one tough practice to completely shred one of the pads. I wear a pad only on one knee so I still had a brand new one once the first had worn out. Unfortunately, after only one practice, the new pad was completely torn apart. The fabric had tons of holes and rips and the hex pads were falling out. Would not recommend AT ALL! I've been playing volleyball in these knee pads for about 2 months now. They have been through a fair amount of diving and contact with the court. I am disappointed to see that the pads have developed holes in the outer layer of fabric. While playing on both hardwood and plastic surfaces, the pads have slid okay but have not held up as I hoped they would. The holes started showing up after only 3-4 uses in matches and practices. I have been able to continue wearing the pads even with the holes and they still serve their purpose. They do better on hardwood but still developed holes. These pads are SUPER comfortable though. After wearing them for about 10-15 minutes, I barely even know they're there. The hex pattern of the pads makes them really flexible and they stay in position fairly well. They compression is comfortable (if fit using the sizing chart) and the pads stay in place pretty well. I would recommend them for someone who is not going to be having a ton of contact with the ground and needs lightweight and comfortable pads. For more durability and strength, I would look elsewhere.

Muy ligeras
Nada aparatosas.
