SHIMANO CM-1000 Sports Camera

Perfect for cycling. Form factor is better than GoPro as it's small, light and streamlined. The functions and app take a little getting used to, but, it's not that big of a deal. I use it for safety during rides. Haven't used the ANT+ or video stat overlay technology yet, but, that's not why I bought it.I also use it on my quad copter with great success.It is a little pricy and the battery only lasts two hours, otherwise five stars.Update after 300 miles and a couple weeks. I really like the form-factor and the fact that it's water proof and simple. I do not like the way Shimano released a new firmware update that bricks my camera until I update it. I have a MAC and have been unable to update because they haven't released a MAC compatible firmware update yet.

I guess I'm used to Apple products; out of the box they just work. This one states "Memory type: microSD card (optional), 32GB capacity" but really it's required. In fact the user manual says that the unit will sound several beeps and will not operate without an SD card. Should read NOT INCLUDED. So I ran off to the store to buy one, then when I got it in place, it would not operate until I upgraded the firmware. The app from the appstore would not talk to the unit otherwise. Then had to follow the circular directions for the firmware upgrade from the web. Finally I got it working where I could set things up and the battery was dead. So 4 hours later I could set it up for my ANT+ devices.

I have the GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition and I wanted something less obvious while cycling on my road bike. This fits the bill perfectly. I get right at 2 hours off of one full charge and recording on the highest setting consumes around 16gb of my microsd card. The clarity of the dome shaped protective lens doesn't seem that good to me. Not sure if I have a bad one or this is how all of them are. Most videos I have seem, most are using the flat underwater lens protector and I do as well. The only other issue is Shimano has not released the desktop software yet so the Ant+ features are useless right now but according to Shimano they are working on it. I am seriously thinking about buying a second one I like it that much

Too fussy and complicated to use. Too many written instructions and documents to keep up with just to use basic functions. Cannot understand why Tour de France teams wanted to use it unless sponsor money was the reason. No cyclist wants to have to spend this much time with setting up their gadgets. I work with tech all the time and find this product unacceptable.

Terrible product - overly complicated with minimal documentation and broken links on the website. Can't delete from the camera, can't delete by connecting camera to computer, must remove microSD card and place in a reader. Oh, where is my microSD card reader again? But wait, you can delete from the phone app! Sorry, firmware update is required. Where are the firmware instructions? Anyway, time to go for a bike ride. Leaving camera at home.Also: only records for 2.5 hours and takes a long time to charge.

Clear video. Helped to catch many bad drivers on the road. Buying another for the rear of my bike.

Useless. Software (app) to control the camera not available in the USA.

Excellent product. Quality video, easy to operate.
