Amazing tool
Every year I have 150’ of eight to ten feet high and eight foot wide laurel hedges to trim. This Mikita extended trimmer is just the right weight and length to do most of the job easily. I only had to pull out my really long Echo gas trimmer for some of the longer reaches. After using gas for all these years it is so nice to having a trimmer so light and easy to manage. I can also start early in the morning when it is cooler because it is so quiet and not bother the neighbors.English Laurel is one of the harder hedges to trim because the leaves are so big and the stems get woody. The Mikita cuts through pencil size woody twigs easily.I regret not buying it years ago. I also have the chainsaw, blower and string trimmer not to mention drills and flashlights, so I have a good collection of batteries. Battery life with heavy use was longer than I could last with the 5 amp battery.Sharp and powerful. I fell in love with it within the first five minutes. The real deal, not a toy.

Bushes Beware
Lighter weight than a gas trimmer same size, cuts excellent and has a reverse feature for when blades get in a bind. Cheap? No it's not but it will save you effort and time and no need for earplugs. The blades are of very good material as having used a lot and not chipped the blades. I would buy this again.

Does the job
got it 3 days ago and gave it a workout on 180 linear ft of 8' tall photinia (redtip) hedge, two 11' arborvitae, several 8' burford holleys, and some 7' tall loropetalums. Used 2-cycle trimmer on low hanging fruit and finished off with the makita cordless. I like it. Made the job much easier with no ladder or lunging from my tip toes. Read criticism of having to push power button if you let go of trigger too long - not a factor, never gave me a problem. Some critisize battery life - absolutely no problem with my two 5ah batteries. I needed a break long before even one battery ran low.Cutting power? Hey It's not a 2-cycle but very surprised by what it did on Burford holleys as some stems were good 3/8". Arborvitae was piece of cake and very adequate to even the top of photinias. Only gave 4 stars because I5 stars bad karma and no experience with its durability. Light weight and Like the way it folds for storage. Only ran on high speed and doubt i'll ever use other two. Ability to change angle a great feature, wouldn't want one without it. Zero complaints.Next challenge is trimming light brush on a pond bank.4 years later: I’m bumping it up to 5 stars. Has never let me down.

Awesome Hedge Trimmer When You've Got Big Shrubs That Are Tall or Wide (or Both)!
I've used a traditional 24" handheld corded Black and Decker hedge trimmer for years. It worked fine. I was able to do the job with it. Unfortunately, I have many tall and wide hedges, and "the job" involved me getting up on a ladder on sloped or uneven ground in order to trim my hedges. Somehow, after looking into a new hedge trimmer, I realized how much I like my other cordless Makita products (drill, chainsaw), so I looked into Makita and was torn between the 30" hedge trimmer and this one (XNU01Z). I obviously went with the XNU01Z, and was able to do all my shrubs in record time -- without the ladder. This was a big effing deal. I ran the trimmer on the highest speed the whole time, and the first battery (18v, 5.0ah) lasted a good two hours, enough to get nearly everything done. Since I had two batteries, that was no problem. The trimmer cuts quite well, both easy stuff and thicker. My only advice to anyone using it for the first time is to get some Advil after using it, as it will definitely exercise some muscles that you don't use when using a regular handheld hedge trimmer. Don't let the 20" length put you off either. The reach that this thing has is outstanding, and along with the cordless aspect, makes up for any perceived lack of length that you may have had with your 24" trimmer or whatever. This one's a winner, for sure, especially if you have hedges that are hard to reach because of their width or height. And last but not least, it's safer!! No more trimming up on a ladder!!

Trimmer that performs like a Beast!
Purchased this to trim 24 Leyland Cypress Trees, 12 Green Giants and plenty other species of trees on my property. This thing is a Beast! it cuts effortlessly, is very quiet and performs extremely as advertised. The articulating blade is extremely helpful when trimming in various positions although some positions may feel a bit unbalanced with the battery end a bit heavy. Battery life is extremely long and you will be able to cut beyond 20 minutes without even losing a segment of battery indication. Will cut through anything up to about 3/4" diameter the best. I have not tried any larger diameter cuts. I highly recommend!

Cuts well
Nice product. It cuts well but a little on the heavy side.

Better than expected!
I use a 5 amp battery for this tool. It easily cuts as long as I have needed when trimming hedges as well as blackberry bushes at the edge of my multi acreage lawn, with just a single battery. Blades are sharp, angle is easy to adjust, weight is easier to handle than a dual battery or larger voltage would be. Nothing regrettable about this tool.

Light and easy to use.
I’ve been considering an echo power head with attachments for years. Glad I went with this instead. Although it is pricey, it’s much cheaper than the echo gas version. It’s light, easy to use and made quick work of my bigger trimming jobs. Battery life was reasonable. The tool works so fast, the battery isn’t really an issue at all. I have 1.25 acres and I have extensive landscaping that I care for myself. Glad I made this purchase. Much safer than climbing a ladder with a 22” trimmer. I’m 6’ and I could easily trim about 10’ high off the ground.

Great hedge trimmer
Light-medium weight compare to my old Black And Decker 18v. Cut well and don’t take a lot of battery juice. I make a test with a 3ah battery and after 20minutes, it will going strong. If you plan to cut a bigger area, have some spare batteries.Very happy customer.

Best Hedge trimmer
This trimmer is by far the best I have ever used. I cut a 100 foot long cedar hedge (7 ft tall). Did it using 2 Batteries (4 ah). The weight is light enough that you don't have to take a break. I wish I had bought this years ago.

Best Investment I have ever made!
This tool was the best investment that I have made as I have a landscape business. Although its a little more than I wanted to pay, its easy to operate and does the job very well.I did purchase a cheaper Dewalt product before, it broke down before actually using it on a job.As they say " you get what you pay for".
