Does this spray work as a primer?

Yes. It is both a unique army green color that only Army Painter makes and a primer. You don't have to base coat, just prime and move on to shading and highlighting. It saves a step.

I got a can of this 5 yrs ago and just recently used the last of it to prime reaper bones with no tac at all. Has the mix changed in 5 or still good?

Army painter primer is still the best and as far as i can tell, hasn’t changed in years. I’ve used quite a bit of their primers and paints over the years and have never been disappointed.
