awareness that there is a ton of bad stuff added in because it is allowed
This has pros and cons.Pros, awareness that there is a ton of bad stuff added in because it is allowed, technically legal ect...(vitamin e vs real whole-food plant form is dangerous and does increase all-cause mortality) ect..and it is astounding how these things are still in our food, polluting children's entire system's and will be passed to further generations because of the lipophilic/magnifying properties.Proauthor researches, conducts research, is committed, appears to live how he preaches.ConParanoid inducing?Just eat whole-food-plant based-diet, get your b-12, d3 if in the appropriate latitudes, potentially vegan-DHA/EPA (but $ and worth-it vs. flax?)One can read about the best diet/lifestyle approaches all they want but if there is not initiative than it will not be beneficial and inspiring for others. (contagious)Concould lead one toa. spend to much $b. believe in a false-hope that we can thrive under b12 homocysteinemia (chlorination of water kills bacteria)C. fails to consider the concept of hormesis (benefit from mild stressors)d. hypocaloric/muscle wasting as a result*much prefer the optimistic/simplistic views of Dr. Mcdouggal, Dr. Gregors, but "Dr"/supposedly Brain Clement is a good start for someone assuming they research and implement his approaches slowly/caustiously

Eye Opening Information, Exellent Read
I have only read a few chapters and that's enough to open my eyes to the serious deception involved with the vitamin industry. I'm also starting to research this topic on my own and what I am finding solidifies the content in this book. If you take supplements that are purchased from local food markets, health food stores and even whole food stores, most likely you are getting synthetic nutrients that do nothing for your health and may even be toxic to you according to some studies. If you want true, healthy nutrients in the forms of vitamins and minerals and the like that nature intended to be pure and potent, this book has eye opening information that you should invest in to understand the truth behind a $22 billion dollar a year industry.

Very well written book, truly an eye opener. Highly recommend it. After listening many of his lecture on the YouTube, I wouldn't expect anything less from Brian Clement. He seems to be a man of integrity and delivers in this book as expected. Always look what is behind the curtains. He is definitely not afraid of unveiling the truth no matter how ugly it may be, in contrast to others who may just ignore the facts or just remain superficial.

So much I didn't know
Excellent book on the history of supplements and on explaining the difference between synthetic (sadly a vast majority on the market) and naturally occurring supplements. I never really gave any thought to how supplements came to be so this book is extremely educational. The description of how synthetic vitamins came to be, how they're made, the additional material used to make them, is so eye opening as well. It's also an easy read and doesn't get too technical or 'sciencey'. :-) Nice job!Another reviewer said there were no NOS vitamins suggested and are hard to find. Google "metaorganics"--a reasonably priced line of supplements that are certified NOS.

Eye Opening!
This is a good book and worth reading if you take supplements. It is a look "behind the curtain" on the manufacturing of various "healthy" products. Good to know. Author is highly regarded in the holistic health industry, so it is a good read.

Lack a good way to check the information
The book say many interesting that got me really worried , the problem is that for the book to be usefull to anyone you have to put faith in the author's sincerity .Unlike many scientific based books , it lacks the source of the information right after the affirmation has been made . To make things worse , the bibliography is quite small , and you wont be able to easily find the source of the information you want to check ( or, worse , you will not find it at all ) . Maybe, the sources are really ok , but you would need to read them all , because you would not be able to know if the info you want is inside an specific article just by reading the titles... Again , buy the book and BELIVE . Have faith . Because you will not be able to know for yourself.

Excellent source of information, a real asset if you really want to educate yourself in this area
If you are really willing to take responsibility for your health and act in a possitive way this is an excellent choice for you. Here Dr. Clement explains clearly and directly all the options that we have when it comes to buying supplements and all the things that we ignore and that the system wants us to keep ignoring. It would be interesting for us to make better choices and slowly but surely push the industry towards better products.

A little supplemental insight
Opening with essays on four common misconceptions (all of which I had held), Dr Clement then discusses the parts the commercially best-known supplements vitamins/minerals play in our metabolism. The book then winds down with chapters on Recommended Daily Allowances, oil fallacies, scams, direct marketing and thoughts on the law, followed by Appendices.I am glad to have read this book. And it is saving me money - as I no longer routinely chug my multivitamin tablet with added minerals and a fish-oil capsule with every breakfast. As each bottle emptied, I replaced it with one by another company, so as to change the mix and not build tolerance. It seems I had been fooling myself. Apparently most global companies source their ingredients from the same manufacturers (most affordable vitamin C apparently coming from one factory in China). But it doesn't resolve the man-in-the-streets' perplexity at being told one minute Vitamin E is essential for your heart so supplement, then next that it is a killer; that Vitamin A is a life-saver then, after being told Beta-Carotene is the "same thing", that Beta-Carotene supplementation is at best ineffective and at worst, toxic; being taught that Vitamin C is just ascorbic acid, being advised (e.g. Linus Pauling) to supplement generously, then being told it will rot your teeth and guts; at present it is Vitamin D being touted as the next cure-all - until it is inevitably driven off its perch (possibly by Vitamin K?).This book gives useful insights into supplementation and how much rubbish is broadcast in order to make a sale. It does not supply the guidance and deeper answers which I personally was looking for.
