The battle against the Arrancars continues. Just as Ichigo is on the verge of death, Kenpachi Zaraki steps in and takes over the fight with the Espada Tesla. And Byakuya clashes with Zommari Rureaux, the fastest of the Espadas, who is trying to finish off an injured Rukia. Will his Bankai be enough to defeat Zommari when he uses Rukiaโs body as a shield? Review: Bleach anime - Good as new Review: Back to canon material - After Set 7 being 90% filler, Set 8 is a nice change of pace and brings us back to the main story of Bleach. This Blu-ray features episodes 196-223, 28 episodes in total. There are plenty of iconic fights in this set, my personal favorite being Kenpachi vs Nnoitra. The video quality is a bit better than the previous Blu-ray. Set 7 looked pretty rough at times, even for an upscale. Keep in mind this is not true 1080p HD and is merely an upscale. Bleach was animated before 1080p was the norm. A slight fuzziness is the best way I can think to describe the quality. Video is 16:9 and not cropped 4:3. Later episodes in the series may prove to be a visual improvement on Blu-ray due to another shift in quality at the original time of airing in Japan. Only time will tell what Viz puts out for us. The highlight of this Blu-ray is the packaging. Slipcover is holofoil, high quality material. The slip itself features Shinji while the artwork on the interior is the same image of Shinji, but with his Visored mask disappearing/half visible. A small but nice touch. This set once again includes reverse artwork inside, this time it is a beautiful group shot of the Visoreds with a new quote on the opposite side. This is the most visually impressive packaging to date, in my opinion. Bonus features include art gallery of original Japanese DVD covers, clean opening and endings, interview with Chris Smith (voice of Wonderweiss and Rose). Nothing too crazy but better than nothing. Overall I highly recommend this set to any Bleach fan. Tons of great battles, quality animation, beautiful packaging, you can't go wrong here.

Blu Ray
To everyone having a hissy fit over the quality of the Blu Ray. Blu Rays can be used for more than just HD video. They are a large storage cd. So I imagine that the video is still the same as it was when first aired. They are just storing more episodes per disc

Unfortunately this release continues the lack of upscaling, or at the very least lack of noticable upscaling. Granted it's still the best way to collect the series. Careful ordering to the UK though, I ordered Sets 8/9 and both had the cases smashed up to bits, although this set was absolute pounded into oblivion, the spine is almost completely seperated from the sides on both sides, and the discs no longer sit in correctly. Simply appauling delivery. (Never had this issue with previous releases, but worth cautioning about the chance of it happening)

This set contains some of the Rescue Orohime from Hueco Mundo arc along with fillers. The main story episodes are quite good with plenty of action. The fillers are a mixed bag, with some fluff containing some drama and comedy but also some boring bits. In some ways, a "light release" leaving out the fillers would have been welcome, especially as a couple of sets have only a few episodes of the main arc. Still, when I buy the sets I watch every episode. I last watched them with subbed-only versions so now I see them with the English audio option and better video. And chapters. In the future, if I'm not in the mood, it's easy enough to skip a few episodes if I don't want to see some of the fillers. Oh, and again, I'm hearing impaired as well as visually impaired and like having the ability to turn on English subs with the English audio, so if I can't hear a word or two i can figure it out from the subs. I am able to listen to Japanese audio and pick out some of the words, but I often miss reading some of the subs and have to rewind. English audio plus subs is the best option for me when watching a series. I'll buy subbed only sets if that's what I can get.

Great box set however when it arrived the case was horribly damaged and had to use a different case altogether.

I love the show but it has way too much filler.
