Who needs a grand Seiko?
The second hand misses the marks, but otherwise this is a really good watch for the money, especially the sapphire crystal.I put it on a lizard skin strap, and it's the watch I wear on those days I need a suit and tie - perfect for that.

20 years and still going
This watch has taught hundreds of games of tennis with me .. is so precise .I've had to replace the glass and the strap over those 20 years at a total cost of about 50 euro . Because id damaged the glass and the strap clasp wore out . But it still works like the day I bought it . . It's performance has not changedBravo Seiko

Superb Poor Man's GS
I have an extensive watch collection and was considering some of quartz Grand Seiko models. These are at the top of Seiko’s range and command prices in the thousands. However as Seiko produce watches across the price range, and some of them share their aesthetic design, I was able to buy this SUR311P1 to see whether I would like the idea of what would be my first dress watch, without blowing the bank.If you are interested the model I was looking at is the SBGP011.This watch is from Seiko’s Conceptual Mens Watch range and almost uniquely at the price point comes with a sapphire crystal. They are usually hardened mineral, which can scratch but unlike acrylic, can’t be polished. It has an elegant, simple dial with an applied Seiko logo, a framed date window at 3 o’clock on a white background, dauphin hands and a long thin, graceful second hand. There’s some lume on the hands and at the markers but the plots are small and so it’s not especially long lasting. The watch is 40 mm in diameter, has 10 bar water resistance, e.g. no use for diving and I wouldn’t shower in it. Being quartz, the watch is impossibly thin at about 9mm, which is fantastic. It features an easy to size metal bracelet and comes with a tool and instructions for resizing. You really don’t need to take it to a jewellers to do that. I have 8” wrists and while I could wear the watch with the supplied links, it was slightly tight. I wrote to Seiko UK who very kindly sent me an additional link, free of charge, once I had provided them with proof of purchase. The end links are not solid and the clasp is only stamped metal, so the bracelet can be a bit jangly. The clasp only has two adjustment points, so you need to get the number of links right. Seiko as usual have saved money on the bracelet. As this is a dress watch, I though I would treat it to a leather strap. However, despite the spec’s saying this watch has a 20mm lug gap, the gap is 19MM. While I can use the leather strap on my other watches, I was annoyed that I would have to buy another one for this watch. It houses a 6N52 quartz movement, which has a three year battery life, and a specified accuracy rating of ±15 seconds per month. Having worn it for three weeks now, it has lost 2 seconds in that time, so is well within spec. The date is slow to change over. But, and I am fussy, the seconds hand hits most of the markers, most of the time. It seems to phase in and out. But at this price point, I can certainly live with that. This would be a perfect “Poor man’s Grand Seiko.” Clearly it’s nowhere near GS levels of refinement or finishing, but I am impressed with what it offers for the price.
