Why the black stuff when drying and oiling

Are you asking why the rag or paper towel comes off a bit black when you clean/oil this? It is because freshly milled cast iron is not black. It is shiny. The black you see is factory seasoning. Some comes off when you actually begin to use it. It is hard to find photos of "fresh" cast iron, but here is one. I got a shiny new steel flat top grill. As soon as you oil it and start to use it, it turns dark permanently where you seasoned in some oils.

What's the country of origin?

since China perfected stir fry wok cooking, I'm glad it was made in China. All professional woks in Asian restaurants are made in China. I wouldn't trust an American company to make a wok, even a reputable company like Lodge. Lodge makes great cast-iron skillets and pans, for western cooking, but not sure if they know how to make a wok.

Will this wok sit on a burner without tipping? It doesn’t have a flat bottom, correct?

It does have a flat bottom, and will sit comfortably without tipping.

what kind of oil is it seasoned with? Is it vegetarian friendly?

I am not sure what they preseason the pan with. You would have to go directly to the manufacturer. I do use olive oil after I clean mine to season the wok. I have to say, I love this thing!
