Great idea with many uses from home to farm to industrial applications.
I work in an environment (winery) where cleanliness and exposure to (oxygen) is critical at times to control. These lids are not just a gimmick. They are well constructed, durable, and effective.Cleaning them takes a bit of effort if the underlying material is sticky or adherent but worth the effort.Wine tanks frequently have "variable capacity" lids that allow you to control head space. This product allows you to do the same in any container the diameter of a 5 gal pail.If your product is very viscous it is best to leave some head space between the lid to reduce the amount of force required to extract the lid later.I have also tried them on dry granular material such as rice, grains, and dry powdered materials. The lid does permit some movement in the product according to temperature changes - but resists expansion to some extent. It completely eliminates ingress of flies, dust, odors, etc.The lid did not appear to impart any flavor to the product or pick up any from it. I have not had time to evaluate long term contact/storage yet.It is also possible to add connections through the lid to permit atmosphere management (such as Nitrogen, C02 or Argon) under the lid - though this is of course at the risk of the installer/user. A simple (valve or plumbing fitting with a cap) can be installed to permit air to re-enter the under space and reduce suction on extraction if you "have" to have intimate contact with the viscous material in the container..These are a great product that has many uses in a wide range of applications from keeping dog food fresh to beer and wine making to more industrial applications requiring inert or controlled environmental separation. They can also be adapted to fabricate a "piston" of sorts, as in a fresh air ventilation devices and other low pressure / low volume applications though I have not evaluated how long the seal will last in this application. I wish they had been as available decades ago.

Creates and MAINTAINS an excellent vacuum seal to keep food fresh!
I keep my dog’s kibble in a 5 gallon food safe bucket with this lid and it WORKS! I take out about 3 days worth and keep it in a smaller Airscape container on the counter, to minimize exposure of the rest to oxygenation which breaks down fatty acids and causes it to go stale or even rancid. At the end of the bag, 6 weeks or so, it smells just as fresh as when I opened the bag. The dog likes it just as much too. This thing creates and MAINTAINS such a good vacuum seal, that if I’m in a hurry, I have to brace my knee on the edge of the bucket as I pull. Otherwise you just pull a few seconds longer. You are releasing the vacuum when you squeeze the handle, very ergonomic.

Airscape Bucket Insert airtight lid
KEEP THE TAG! The instructions for use are on it. (LOL inside joke between my husband and I.) Insert will fit buckets with INNER DIAMETER of 10.4 to 11.6 in. (roughly 24 to 26 cm).1) check to see that the insert seal is down BEFORE you use it. The directions do not state this and you will have to use your head to figure it out. It’s easy to remove and reattach, so no worries there 😉2) Keep the insert level when placing into the bucket you are using otherwise you will not get a good seal Squeeze the handle, push down firmly, then release handle.3) Ensure the edges of the seal are flat against the sides of the bucket. If it ripples, it may not be sealed well.4) Personally, I use a regular bucket lid to close the bucket up (if it can fit) after the insert. It helps to keep other stuff from getting on the insert (dust, dirt, etc.).5) I would NOT recommend using the insert as a handle to carry the bucket after you have sealed it as you may break the seal and spill the beans (LOL husband!)6) If you wash the insert, I recommend you do it by hand with dish soap and dry it completely before using again. (Again this is MY recommendation as it does not state it on the instructions.)

Bokashi Bucket Upgrade
I wasn't sure I wanted to invest anymore in my DIY Bokashi composting bucket, but this is a game changer! Bokashi is fermented composting. This has made a world of difference in my end result.

Five Stars
Works really well in 5 gallon buckets. A bit tight fit for the 3 gallon ones.Update:After 6 weeks of use, this is how the seal fits. It has developed some pleats around the edge of the rubber skirt, large enoughthat you can see the contents of the bucket beneath the seal- hardly air or water tight.Started out great, but not at all effective for sealing with time. Perhaps I have a defective one....?5/22 Update:I contacted the seller directly and showed them the photo of the problem. They quickly sent a replacement with an apology. My compliments to the seller!

Perfect 5 gallon bucket lid for quick easy use.
I love how quick and easy it is to use this lid. The suction isn't incredible but as far as keep the contents in my bucket clean and safe is amazing. This is not an air tight solution but it's air tight enough for me. For my other buckets I use the gamma lids instead. For example: for my cat food. This suction lid will probably work but it doesn't seem as air tight as the gamma lids. I mostly use it to cover my water solution I've mixed up for my plants. It keeps the animals out of the bucket and keeps things from falling in.The only downside I have found is that the bucket can't be completely full. There needs to be at least 2.5 inches from the top for tis to work.
