Do you need a power cord connection, too? Or just the USB?

Jen, I don't need a power cord or a USB. The Docking Station worked once. The next time that I had an opportunity to use the Docking Station it did not work. I contacted Kensington Support. Kensington tried to troubleshoot the problem over a 2 week period. After about a week of troubleshooting, I decided to I wanted to exchange the docking station because the one that I had would not work after a week of trouble shooting, however, when I attempted to exchange the docking station, I received an auto reply from Amazon advising me that the defected unit was beyond the allowable return time. Kensington did not return my telephone as they had stated. They finally contacted me once again via email stating that since they have not heard from me they marked the incident as "resolved". They finally contacted me on 12/9, 12/10, 12/17/12/24 & 12/31. The initial problem that I had experienced was that the picture was larger than the display, then I didn't have a display on either monitor. The USB outlets worked just fine, the speaker connection worked fine did not have any video. After a month of on and off troubleshooting, Kensington requested that I return the defected unit to them at my expense. I just received the replacement unit and have not had the opportunity to set up the docking station. Needless to say, I was disappointed with the lack of Customer Support from Amazon and the fact that I had to ship the defective unit back to Kensington at my expense.

can I keep my laptop closed?

Hello, Yes you can close the lid if you are running 2 monitors. You would have to change the settings within "Screen Resolution" after it detects both. Also, in "Power Settings" you can configure the laptop to stay on when the Lid is closed.

Does Doccking station include (i.e., come with) both DVI -> VGA and DVI -> HDMI adapters????

Can I connect 2 DVI-D monitors? I only see one video port on the picture. Would I need additional cables?

There's only one port. I doubt that you can connect 2 even with additional cables
