This Book Was Dirty
I ordered this book for my autistic son who enjoys this story. Unfortunately, I ordered a "used" version. When it arrived, it was covered in a dirty substance that I had to wipe clean with a cloth. When I looked through the pages, it appeared as if there were dead bugs - not really sure what the tiny things were, but they resembled dead bugs to me. If my son wasn't so excited about getting this book (when you're a mom of a special needs child, you'll do almost anything to see a smile or hear the excitement noises), I would have thrown it in the trash and sealed the garbage bag.

This book has been a favorite for my grandson as a child
This book has been a favorite for my grandson as a child, he is now 33 and my great grandson who has enjoyed it since he was a baby, he is now 4I think it speaks to little boys nighttime fears and slowly reveals there is nothing to be afraid of. This story is told in a humorous manner the child's attention and some participation just flows. Our original copy was pretty worn so we opted for a new hard cover. it's a keeper!

Ends with Bert scared of dark, and no resolution
Not sure why so many kids books do this: person X is scared of the dark, person Y convinces them to not be scared, but by the end person Y is scared. For little kids, they just focus on person Y, who is scared at the end, and they use it to justify their fear of the dark. Berenstein bears book does the same thing. It may make for a cute story, but doesn't help little kids get over their fear of the dark.

I purchased this for my four year old who's a little bit afraid of bed time. Ernie overcomes his fear with a lot of help from Bert, I wish he had done it a bit more on his own as the whole point is for her to feel safe by herself at night.
