Instabind - DIY Carpet Binding - Turn Carpet Scraps into Area Rugs - Sold in 5 ft Incriments (Graphite)

2nd UPDATE: It is May of 2023 and my diy stair treads using instabind look as good as the day I made and installed them! I’m so glad I did it. I thought for sure I did something wrong somewhere and binding would start to come off. It has NOT! 1 year later and still going strong! If you’re a diy person, do it! You won’t regret it! UPDATE: I must say that it is Sept 2022 and I’m so glad I tried this project! The pressure sensitive adhesive worked perfectly!!! The binding is still in place and I have 2 rambunctious labradoodles running up and down the stairs. I wish I took a before picture. But I love the runner I chose to make the treads out of. I tried to number the pieces as I cut them so when I stapled them to the stair treads it had the same pattern as the runner. If you’re thinking of attempting this do it!! It’s worth it especially if you can’t find pre made carpet treads you like. But it did take me a few days. It also took me a few weeks to het the plan in my head on how I was going to do it and to get up the courage to just do it. I added a pic of the finished project. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I purchased the instabind in March of 21, I am just now using it in March of 22. I came back to see if others were complaining about it not being very sticky and to try to find out if maybe I waited too long to use it. Or maybe in time it’s less sticky. That is my experience this very moment. But I did read that it’s pressure sensitive. So only time will tell. It was very easy to use. For me, the hardest part is cutting the binding off a runner that I want to make stair treads out of. The instabind is very simple to use. One review complained about having to use so much hot glue, but you’re supposed to only use a small glue gun and mini glue sticks. You only need a narrow bead. I think that reviewer may have just been having a rough day. It works exactly like it shows in the you tube video. Ok gotta go… I’ve done 2 treads, have 12 more to go!

We had a very large carpet remnant leftover when we moved into a new lake house. I wanted to use it in a kids bunk room but didn’t want to schlep it to an upholsterer to have it bound. This edging worked great and looks professional. It’s one of the few projects ever that was easier than expected. Lots of colors to choose from—ours matched perfectly—and it was exactly the length I ordered. The adhesive is such that you can move around/adjust it while putting it on but gets permanent over time. Can you tell I LOVE this product! Congratulations on whoever developed this! (Note: Definitely use a fine tipped glue gun. Makes finishing much easier.)

I was skeptical about this product. Sounded too good to be true. But I had a beautiful wool rug that the entire edge was frayed and the binding coming off the entire thing. I had tried to hot glue it back at one point …didn’t work well. The rug was in its way to the dump🥺 I took a chance and ordered this and SO So happy I did. The binding came in a roll..you peel the backing off. I had More than enough to do this good sized round rug. The color is exactly as shown. The directions are spot on. Super easy to apply - even for me (the most UNhandy person in the world). This is a Quality product. My poor rug now looks brand new! It looks like a professional job as well! It fit snugly right up to the edge of the carpet (weird last photo) I love this product so much I wish I had more things to use it on! Recommend - HECK YEAH !!!

Worked well, looks good. Seems to be good quality and easy enough to install with a glue gun. Not sure about longevity, but so far, so good. I think the colors are off a bit from the pictures of the colors in the listing. I had to return the first order because it did not match the carpet, but it didn't look like the picture of the color either. I took a chance on another color that I did not think would match, but it did.

If you want a large area rug. Consider buying a large length of carpet. Then use this carpet binding for a finished look on the edges. It works great! Husband and I (with no prior experience) did this project together. Worked out well and the cost is so much less than buying an area rug.

Works ok at first but after time looses its stickiness

This is a great product. Not only was customer service helpful is getting me the correct color, but it was incredibly easy to use. I could not find anyone to bind one side of a rug and would have had to buy a new one. I simply used this product to rebind it myself and it was brand new. My little dog had chewed one corner of the rug and after I cut the rug and rebound it you could not even tell it was damaged. Love, love, love this product.

I SO wanted this to work, but IT DOES NOT!!! First let me say that I'm a very handy, crafty person and looked forward to working with this product. Now let me say this: SAVE YOUR MONEY ON THIS JUNK AND BUT A MAT OR RUG!!! it is a very low quality product and the description on the Amazon page fails to mention several things that you only find out once you receive the product. First you're going to need about 5 pounds of hot glue sticks as the manufacturer wants you to supply the adhesive material at even more cost than this spectacularly overpriced product. The description does say this: "Pressure sensitive adhesive repositionable at first but becomes permanent over time lying flat on floor. " What this really means is it is IMPOSSIBLE to get this stuff to stick to the backing so as you're trying to work with it, it won't stick and constantly moves and this makes corners practically impossible. You have to work on the bottom side to apply which means you're working the topside (that you will see) in the blind, so when you flip it over... the "pressure sensitive" tape has slipped so straight lines are not going to happen. And you don't even want to hear about the paper piping the instructions want you to splice with more hot glue. Please believe me, Adam Savage, Billy Graham and seven angels couldn't make this stuff look good. I don't know who is writing positive reviews about this garbage, but if you're a weekend DIY'er who can tackle most projects, trust me when I tell you stay as far away from this product as possible. I ended up with on 22" x 32" mat that looks like a third grade 4H project for about $22 bucks, and I'm out about 3-4 hot glue sticks...looks like it will probably last about two weeks.

Good product

It took extra couple weeks to receive it. I found it easy to use. It was quite white so I used a watered don stain now it matches perfectly. Glad I purchased I can get a few extra years out of my carpet
