Simplicity 3519 Medieval Sewing Pattern for Men and Women by Theresa LaQuey, Sizes XS-XL

I am SO SAD that this pattern has been discontinued. I had a copy and lost it, so I ordered a new one. I've made this shirt 7 times and it has been a cosplay pleaser every single time. Wearers have been medium thru 3/4X (had to size up for the 3/4X by hand). Great for hot festivals as with the right fabric, keeps you cool and is good for preventing sunburn. Could not recommend more. *3 of the people in the picture are wearing shirts made from this pattern*

My husband and I made better shirts than those sold for much more at the Renaissance retailers. The instructions were easy to follow, but not for the novice. They are really voluminous and the sleeves are wonderful. We each think we could have worn the next size down, but being really big is kinda' cool. With a leather belt and Osnaberg fabric, you look like an 18th century hunter or pirate.

This pattern is somewhat easy to make. But they do ask you to do a giant "gathering" which will frustrate you to no end when you keep snapping the thread (like it did for me) Also, the instructions were about as clear as they usually are for Simplicity patterns, which is not very clear if you don't know what you're doing (like me) The illustrations are sometimes lacking and weird looking and the explanations are brief.... But after a few tears and youtube instructional videos, the shirts came out great. Feels great to wear something you worked hard on to ren fairs and SCA fights.

This is what I needed. It is a lot easier to make than I though it would be. The sizes are true to size, not smaller than we thought.

I like that this is still offered. I bought the same pattern 20+ years ago. Now, I get to use this pattern again!

I am a beginner at sewing have only been at it almost two months. The instructions aren’t that great but was able to find a video on the internet. It wasn’t great but good enough to explain some of the parts... I’m almost done with it and it looks awesome. Because it’s gathered my stitching errors are not as noticeable and adds character to the shirt.. btw follow the cut diagram. I didn’t and had to purchase additional fabric...

good pattern worked well for what i needed. easy to alter as needed as well.
