Discolored: One fork on the metal that connects to the handle is discolored. I use the top rack in dishwasher so they dont touch. What gives?

Hi. Unfortunately it's just not a good idea to wash flatware that have wood or plastic handles on them in a dishwasher. The heat cycle that dries dishes will cause cracks to form, or fade the stain on wooden handles, and warp or cause discoloration on plastic. Yes, it's a pain having to wash them by hand, but doing so will keep them looking new.
