Small and versatile
Perfect size and cuts well. Like that it takes the same batteries as my other tools.Easy to use and the safety shield is well placed. Would recommend when string trimmer is just too big for trimming. I also like the interchangeable small hedge trimmer attachment.

Great tool.
Have had Makita cordless tools for years. Like them and use them a lot. Have some plants away from the house and this tool is just the item I need for trimming.

Large Cutting Area
I love this product. Notice how many blades it has. It has double the cutting area of the other products that I researched. It runs on 18V battery which gives it plenty of power.

Cuts Like a Trooper Using the Hedge Trimmer Blade
I just love this Makita with the hedge trimmer blade attachment. So much so that I purchased a second one for use in our Local Forest Garden. It does the heavy work around trees and bushes that we can't get into with our weed whackers. That way we can protect that drip irrigation lines. I use the hedge trimmer attachment for heavy grass. BUT BE CAREFUL. This is not a toy, and it is very easy to injure yourself if you don't pay close attention. The blades are extremely sharp. I managed to almost cut the tip of my thumb clear off. Battery life is super. Weight makes it easy to handle for long periods of time.

Where's the beef?
I have many Makita 18 volt power tools and find them to be the best I have ever owned. What happened with this design is a mystery. I only wanted it for the small hedge trimmer to cut back my soft stemmed plants like Spider Wort and Lilies. First I had to change out the grass trimmer to the hedge blade. All went well until I went to "slide/rotate" the cover back on. Nope it would turn. Turned off very easily but wouldn't go back on the hedge blade until I found a way to push down as hard as possible and tap the push marks with a small hammer and that's how I finally got it back on. I will not be looking forward to ever taking that off again. Now for the 'beef" part. Why in the world would Makita underpower this thing so much? The big hedge trimmer uses the same 18 volt battery and works amazingly well. This thing crawls compare to that while using the same battery. For what I am using it for it seems to work ok but not very well. Better on my hands (tool is light) than having to use a pruning tool. I suspect that if the tool was appropriately powered it would cut much better. Makita needs to redo the power performance of this handy little tool or people will just stop buying it as word gets out.Update: I sent an email to the customer service email asking them why Makita decided to make this tool to underpowered. The response I got was "I have no input as to the design of this machine". Duh. Typical "not my job" reply. I sent back a reply suggesting they forward my query on to someone who DOES have input into the design decisions. I don't expect an answer but I have now been very informed as to how Makita feels about after market comments, complaints and suggestions from it's loyal customers and it is not a good thing.

Makita plus two USB-C Rechargeable Batteries
Purchased this Makita for $104 during Amazon Spring Sale (which is also available at a bigbox retailer I won't name for $45 more) and it needed a battery (which bigbox retailer wanted $157 for charger not included) !!! Makita is the top of the line and happily for me I got the product much cheaper than at bigbox retailer or even the Makita choices available on Amazon !!! Please read the batteries review posetd separately !!!

Just doesn't cut.
This is my first review on Amazon. Sorry it's long. I am angry for a couple reasons and feel responsible to let people know about this cordless grass shears. When I decided to buy Makita over lesser priced equivalents was, I wanted the best product and thought Makita would be the right choice that would do a great job. I am extremely disappointed in the performance of this product. I bought it to ONLY cut grass along a white fence so my weed wacker wouldn't damage the fence but more importantly throw grass against the fence staining it green. Initially I was very disappointed how badly the blades cut the grass. It sort of chewed the grass and it took too long to cut. My cheap traditional scissors did it so much better, but it was way too much for my hands. I felt I had no choice but persevere with the Makita, but by the end of summer the grass shears were barely cutting the grass at all. It cut like really bad scissors and the grass seems to go between the blade and it didn't cut but chewed it. Looking at the blades showed no obvious issues. The blades do rub together as expected. So why did it cut so poorly? When I called Makita customer service they wanted me to bring it to an authorized service center that was far from my home or mail it to them for inspection. I told him the product runs but it's not cutting. All they could say was send it in, but the blades are not covered under warranty so I would go through all the trouble only to be told there's nothing wrong with the actual product. A waste of my time and a waste of more than $200 since the shears and the battery together was over $200. Unfortunately they told me I waited too long for a return. I think they should have returned it but even if they are in the right not to refund my money I am still angry and disappointed in this company and its product and advise people to stay away from at least these Grass Shears. Personally I won't buy Makita. I think they should stand by their products especially if their product is poorly designed or just not working properly.
