What do the two dimensions mean?  24" x 36", for example.

How do you prevent the hose from falling out while pumping ? Water also comes out of the hose connection too

The hose has to be screwed into the pump from the side on the hose without the black plastic ring.

Can a regular hose be installed instead of the spiral hose?

No. It is the wire embedded in the plastic spiral hose that creates the threads needed to screw into the female receptacle in the neck of the pump, where there are only a couple of receiving threads. I have 2 of these pumps. The West Marine (bright blue) one is a "piece of junk" in that it bends with summer heat. Not only did the main tube bend when it was hanging by the handle in my FL garage within a month of buying it, making the plunger almost impossible to move up & down , but even the receptacle where the hose screws in... bent out of round this winter when stored out of the sun in my boat cabin. My other pump which is labeled Shoreline Marine not Sea Sense, but looks exactly like this one here, including size, is perfect, but I think I will end up Gorilla gluing it where it screws in. I'm used to the good old fashioned  rubber tubing & metal cylinder bilge pumps that were flexible & indestructible, & I could be as rough with it as necessary. There just aren't enough threads in the head to make it 100% secure if I'm frantically using it in a race or emergency. If u r asking b'cz u want a longer hose, I recommend u check at any swimming pool product store for an additional piece of similar plastic hose with the co-joining sleeve piece (comes 2 diameters). I have a pool with plenty of unused hose & plan to add on 4' this way to my red pump.
