Mostly good enough for just about everything stereo.
Bought these for my kids for first sound system to run with a bluetooth turntable and TV setup along with the add-on subwoofer for a bit more low-end. Probably more a 4.5 score for some cabling limitations and issues, but from a "sound" perspective they are the best thing for the price I can imagine. I'm even contemplating dumping my expensive hi-fidelity system for the simplicity and plenty "good-enough" sound they provide. I won't claim they'll make the most discriminating audiophile happy, but it is hard to find any fault sound wise. Set them up for Christmas, streamed some ripped music from my CD collection through my phone/bluetooth and marveled at how good the stereo separation was and how clear and well defined the reproduction was. Played a couple of albums on the turntable and literally shed tears over how nice it was to sit and hear a good stereo staged sound experience once again - something I'd lost track of over the digital era. These won't do if you are trying to run a huge party and anger the neighbors, but for a living room/family room listening experience and simplicity in setup, they create a quite good stereo music experience for a very affordable price with plenty of punch and volume for any use I can think of - more than enough for a big cinematic score, favorite music track, or just streaming tunes from your phone while working around the house - loud enough to hurt your ears if wanted. 4.5 as I say as the remote is needlessly cheap and the wiring limitations (can't connect the two satellites and subwoofer more than 10/12 feet apart or some such thing) is a problem to check out before you buy, but if that isn't a limitation, they are great. I have another Edifier set I use with my computer and quality for the price simply is great. While I'd love a great high end Marantz amp, huge monster cables to my old time favorite Acoustic Research (AR) top-end speakers, bi-amplified and all, at this point my aging ears will really only get an incremental boost from the like and extra $10,000, so simpler and less expensive is actually more than good enough. Powered so no need for a separate amp/receiver, paired with either coax or bluetooth quite good, even, monitor quality (flat soundstage - steady) sound, and accessible in the digital era. Go with an amp and discrete speakers if you have more than 2 or 3 sources, but for a turntable, CD/DVD, and bluetooth phone/tablet streaming, a great setup. Really attractive cabinets too for the price - I liked the angled face for a standard 10/12 foot distance from a usual TV stand height, seemed to position the sound correctly. Disappointed the subwoofer couldn't be in a matching cabinet though, another reason for the 4.5 - nothing to do with sound.

Really nice, and worth the extra $'s for the subwoofer out.
I had purchased a small pair of Edifier bluetooth computer speakers, that were just what I needed, but the permanently attached cables that limited them to being 5ft apart didn't work for me, so I returned them and upgraded to these at 2x the price. These speakers are overkill for what I need, but man do they sound good. I opted for these vs a cheaper set because they had a subwoofer out option. Glad I did. An old Cambridge Soundworks subwoofer I had works with these. These speakers sound great on their own, but the subwoofer pushes them over the top. The sound becomes more three dimensional and room filling. The bluetooth works great with all my devices so far, and the included remote is a nice touch. The included cable to connect the left speaker is long and will accommodate just about any placement you have in mind. The speakers came packed really well, kudos to Edifier on that. Definitely seems like a premium product. The only criticism I have is minor. I wish they had a separate knob for selecting between inputs. I don't like multi function buttons, where you have to push and hold for one thing, and quick pushes for others. The remote mitigates that annoyance. These are substantial speakers, so if your looking for something small, these might not be for you. If I have problems, I'll update this review, but so far so good. Excellent speakers for someone needing self-powered bluetooth capable speakers. The subwoofer out for only $10 more than the ones without it is worth it, imo. Much more versatile and room filling if you have a subwoofer laying around, or would like to add one later.

Amazing Sound
Absolutely Amazing! The sound produced out of these bad boys are just perfect. The bass is a perfect punch. No distortion on high level volume. Look and finished is on point. High quality built. Perfect size they are a little on the heavy size (built quality) the adjustment knobs are high quality feel. I am a very picky person when it comes to sound and these I tell you are on point! Multiple connectivity inputs available. Bluetooth capability was one of the most important factors for me when choosing these speakers.

These really are a great little speaker
I purchased these to go with my Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB Direct-Drive Turntable. I wanted a powered speaker to minimize the equipment I need to listen to vinyl. I strongly considered the Audioengine A5+ And Kanto YU6, however cost was an issue at this time for me. Feeling I may be a bit disappointed given the aforementioned desire, I was pleasantly surprised by the sound these speaker produce. Set up was easy. First record played was The Greatest Showman soundtrack. Sound was very crisp and clear. Heard things in the songs I didn’t notice previously. Highs are a little “tinny” at first but adjusted the treble down a bit to counter. Assume this will “warm up” post break-in period. Bass was ample considering speaker size. One thing anyone looking at this size of speaker needs to remember - this size woofer can only move so much air. However, these do a far better job than other speakers in this size I have heard. My son (14) actually said he was impressed by the bass and overall clarity. Next vinyl was Gun’s & Roses Appetite for Destruction. Again - clear and crisp. Rock music is always a little muddier by nature but again these did the job very well considering what they are and my intended use. Next I selected Bluetooth source to my iPhone and played varying genres from Charlie Puth to Alterbirdge to the 1975. All we’re handled exceedingly well in my opinion. Again, if you are looking for booming bass, you’d want to seek adding a sub component, as these do have a sub out and crossover built in to do so. The model I purchased is the updated model that resolves the Bluetooth issue (not shutting off) and the remote handles switching from phone/line level to Bluetooth, etc very nicely. Volume control and play/pause/skip for Bluetooth all work very nicely. Build quality is very good. They look very good for the price and have some heft whereas you feel you bought something with some quality to it. If you are debating a powered speaker on a budget and have considered these - I wouldn’t hesitate - as long as your expectations are realistic. These have a very nice sound stage and produce a quality “monitor” level sound versus some cheap (or even expensive) Computer speakers. You can always spend more money - that’s easy if you have it (or even if you don’t really sometimes) but the key is finding a product at a price that fulfills your need. I am quite happy with this purchase. I will eventually seek a larger more expensive option as intended - however these meet all of my needs currently and I am very happy with my decision.

These speakers are the shiznit
These Edifier speakers sound incredible. The audio is crisp and clean across the entire range, and even at 100% volume there’s no distortion or harshness. Bass is tight, mids are clear, and highs are smooth without being fatiguing. Setup was simple, and once connected they immediately outperformed my PC’s built-in speakers by a huge margin. They feel solid and well-built, and the sound quality honestly punches above the price. Perfect for a desk or home office setup. If you want loud, clean, high-quality sound without messing with an external amp or complicated setup, these are absolutely worth it. Highly recommend

Audiophile approved for less than audiophile anything
Was researching quality budget compact speakers for a garage turned into a hang out room. Budget was a concern since someone else was purchasing them. I've been an audiophile for decades and love doing research, and these Edifiers popped up time and again. List price is already low, but these are frequently on sale too. If you take the time to set them up properly (how wide apart they are, toe-in, etc, as well as the treble and bass controls) they are, in a word, amazing. Not just amazing for the price (although certainly that) but seriously impressive. I've got them around 8' apart and my main listening position is about 10' away. You can see this in my pic. Despite having them *inside* bookcases and zero room treatment of any kind, I get good soundstage width and depth, focussed center imaging and impressive bass for their size and woofer diameter. You can be one and done there. However, I highly recommend getting the matching T5 sub to take advantage of that sub-out option on the back. The T5 brings the bass, and the whole enchilada. I can play any genre of music, including bass-heavy, and this trio sounds superb and can hit HARD. I also have to give kudos to the tweeter and midrange drivers on these. Not the last word in anything, but they work splendidly in all genres regardless. The cohesion, non-fatigue factor and nice full midrange just project sound that belies what the speakers look like. I can turn this little system up to the point where the entire garage sounds like a concert or a club, and they don't break a sweat. TL;DR: Coming from an audiophile, I'm highly, highly impressed with these speakers, and not just for the money. Add the T5 sub and give setup some thought and time, and you've got a system that you won't believe how good it sounds, especially considering the prices.

Sounds good.
Good sound. Good look. Easy to install. I recommend getting an Edifier subwoofer to round out the system.

GREAT SPEAKERS!
Was hesitant at first because they are bookshelf size. So glad I bought these! Not disappointed!!! Was using Bluetooth to a Bose Soundbar to play my Turntable. Now I have it direct connected to these Speakers. Even though these speakers can connect via Bluetooth, I recommend connecting them directly to the turntable via included RCA jacks. Sounds tons better than Bluetooth! I do recommend also buying Floor stands if you don’t have shelves to put them on. Highly recommend these speakers. Don’t understand the complaints about the Bass & Remote control. Bass is great for me and remote works fine.

Well built, sturdy, sound great--maybe a little quiet.
I have read reviews that applaud these speakers for sound, design, and solidity. By "solidity", I mean they're heavy enough to project frequencies, rather than absorb them into the cabinet. And they are rugged enough that you don't worry if you bang them together when unpacking them. That's not going to happen because they're really well-packed and supply cloths, spare wiring for hard-wiring (no Bluetooth for me, although it's available.). The remote includes batteries. You really need buy nothing extra; it's all in the box. I didn't hear any distortion in highs; they do well in the mids, where the music resides. They do a fair job on the lows and you could mix a P-bass if you listen carefully. But, to offer a real world example, if you check out the song "Gaia" (James Taylor, Hourglass album), there's an interlude where the level dips a few dBs ("we walked a while, left that town..."), then rebounds with a perceived added low-end thrust. You won't hear that as ballsy as the producer intended on the Edifier. Or on another song, same album, "Look up from Your Life" (which is good advice): you'll hear on the choruses James Taylor imploring us to do just that. Bassist Jimmy Johnson unleashes an earth shaking rumble that will upset glassware, ornaments, and your pets. Well, these speakers don't do full justice to those super-deep notes but otherwise what you get is good clarity, almost pristine sound. Right around now, a reviewer begins to use phrases like, "this is great quality for the price you are paying". This has wrecked an otherwise good review and has me second-guessing the purchase. I mean, "what DO we expect to get for the price? A satisfying sound for you consumers but not for us serious engineers? It makes you wonder. The answer here is that for this sort of price tag you're getting a good set of speakers that enable you to monitor music in the studio. When I started we used mundane Auratones that sounded like dog-droppings. The Edifiers are much more accurate in a room that's moderate in size. Even in my basement studio (10 X 14'), while they sound good, one day, for fun, I decided plug in an old pair of Audio Engine 5+ using an auxiliary jack, one of several available in the Audient EVO. At the same volume levels, the AE-5 buried the Edifiers. But volume isn't everything. And let's tell the truth: I liked them enough that I bought TWO PAIRS, same Edifiers, one with a matched subwoofer from Edifier, for the living room. For the studio it's an old Yamaha sub plus Edifiers - left and right cabinets. By the way, the Edifier includes a special circuit that connects the mains with the sub, which means you use a single cable (provided) as opposed to another left and right connection. The sub gets instructions on how much bass to generate. Money is tight this year and Edifier subs are without fault. A little quiet but they're plenty loud. Yes, I checked wiring, phase and all; these speakers simply didn't put out mega-volume. I thought to myself that a more sophisticated engineer would overrule my opinion and say that the Edifier R1700BT speakers cover the job. That's exactly what happened when an esteemed engineer came by: "They're fine! How much volume do you need, anyway?" Okay, okay. They're made to a high standard; and somebody's doing a superb job on quality control.

Recomendables 100%.
