it doesn't work on older Sturmey Archer hubs
I had to try it. unfortunately did not fit. I ended up using a small punch did the trick.

Quality tool.
Quality tool. Just wish it fit my 1959 hub. I ended up using a pipe wrench - worked surprisingly well. I will try this tool on a 1972 hub in the future.

Very strong tool
I'm not too thrilled that I need a specialty tool to get my hub apart, but that's not related to this product. This really is a must-have. I tried hammers and a punch to get my hub apart, to no avail.I had to use this, and hammer on it, to get my hub apart. It was on there incredibly tight - there's no way I could get the thing apart without it.

Straightforward Tool for the Job
I have a 2013 Brompton, where the hub clutch was slipping, and needed service. The tool fit fine, and has enough leverage to do the job.Based on some of the other reviews, I imagine the fit issues stem from the vintage of the hub being worked on. My relatively recent vintage hub matched up well with this tool.

Like the other review states
Like the other review states...you have to file it to fit. I had a 1970 hub, which, to make this fit, I not only had to file the teeth, but also the entire inner edge to widen it enough to fit over the ring. After all of that, it still didn't work as my hub was spoked into a wheel, and the spoke ends won't allow the wrench to seat well enough on the ball ring to have any usable grip. Now, that said, my hub wouldn't budge even after a week of soaking in penetrant and several sessions with a punch and hammer. In the end, I completely destroyed the wheel and hub. I wish I could return the wrench, but it's been modified, and now has several "temper marks" along the outer edge from me beating the ever-loving-crap out of the hub and flinging both of them across the garage.

The bad side to it is that you need to file ...
I have several Sturmey hubs(1 from 1987 that I use and 2 from the 70s for spare parts). There are 2 sides to this tool. The bright side is that after tinkering with it, you can use it. The bad side to it is that you need to file the teeth down a bit in order for it to fit older models. After ~30-60min for work with a file(thanks god its made out of aluminum ), I managed to get it to fit the 1987 hub. It would need more filing to fit the smaller rectangular holes for the 70s hubs, however, I managed to open those with a hammer and punch. The cost of this key, and cost for the files (extra 5$) are definitely smaller than if I would had taken this to a bike shop. Overall this key is great, I managed to open the 80s hub, that couldn't had been opened with a normal spanner, nor a hammer and punch. Its not perfect, but the best choice out of everything I've seen so far for opening stuck hubs.

An important tool
With out this tool, I would be unable to service my S3X geared hub. Hammering the ball ring was primitive at best. This tool gave me access to refreshing my along with a 16 and 17 mm cone wrench. My S3X is now even smoother than the day I bought it.
