556 Professional DIN A1 Self-Sharpening Paper Trimmer, Dual Guide Bar, Automatic Clamp, Safety Protection Cutter

As a mixed media artist I tend to build my work onto the paper thus often leading to warping or using heavy gsm papers. This trimmer has made light work of cutting through all of it. Which is very impressive as many others have failed. I find that I can get 100% accuracy in finding where I want to cut and a straight cut every time. Also with the double rotary bar the gig feels solid and does not wobble unlike other single bar trimmers! I couldn’t be happier with this paper trimmer and I would recommend it thoroughly!

Wasn’t expecting to pay this when I first starting looking into it, but glad I purchased this version. I trim sizes up to and including a1 on this - it’s brilliant. Easy to use

I bought the Dahle 556 Trimmer to cut cardstock mounting boards. These are well within the stated thickness capacity of this trimmer. However, the structure is just not rigid enough for a trimmer of this large size. The long rail on which the trimming blade runs is too flexible, unless you press very hard it allows the blade to lift off the fixed metal trimming edge it cuts against and run on top of it instead, giving you a distorted cut and ruining the card before it jams completely. This also blunts the blade edge very quickly and the problem just gets worse, making the trimmer unusable. If you need a trimmer this large buy a Dahle 446 instead. They cost a bit more for this size but are more rigid and hence work properly!

Business use, accurate and reliable , cuts well every time

The trimmer is unreliable & doesn't cut straight most times with the cut edge having a slight flick of about 0.5mm. No idea why or how to fix it. Expected better for the money. You can adjust it but the screws don't screw in after a few times. I had to swap them around from the other edge of the trimmer. I'd get a replacement if I could but I've little faith it would last long.

Used for a week doesn’t cut anymore, the cutter is very stiff. Need to do it 3/4 times to cut and the cut is rough

DO NOT BUY. The blades jam on these machines. I resorted to only slicing two pieces of paper at a time but the blade has come up and jammed completely now. The worst £150 I have ever spent. I missed my opportunity to send back by two days because I didnt use it straight away.

Pathetic quality

Cuts beautifully and seriously smooth! I could not be happier with my purchase! The trimmer arrived double-boxed with excellent internal packaging designed for safety in shipping. It's the perfect size and durability (be careful not to grab the straight cutting edge...even though it isn't the cutting wheel, it is very sharp) The value is amazing for what I paid. Even though it has plastic parts, they are very durable and sturdy.

Um schmale lange Papierstreifen zu schneiden habe ich mir den Dahle 556 angeschafft. Aus meiner Erfahrung mit kleineren Rollenschneidern ist es schwierig wirklich exakte Streifen zu bekommen. Für meine Zwecke sollten sie z. B. 19mm breit sein. Vor allem wirklich an beiden Enden. Wenn man den großen Bogen nur an den Anschlag legt, ist es kaum möglich immer genau im richtigen Winkel zu schneiden und vor allem immer die gleiche Streifenbreite zu erhalten. Deshalb habe ich zwei alte Leisten auf 3 mm HDF Plattenstücke geleimt/geschraubt, die ich nun unter die Vorderkante des Rollenschneiders klemmen kann - ohne Spiel dabei zu haben! Dann kamen eine weitere schmale Leiste dazu, um auf die gewünschte Endbreite zu kommen und als letztes auch wieder aus HDF Streifen eine Anschlagkante für das Papier. Mit Papierstreifen, die dann auf den Anschlag geklebt wurden. So konnte ich eine "Feineinstellung" erreichen. Nun sind die Streifen vorne und hinten wirklich genau gleich breit. Vielleicht sollte man sich bei Dahle überlegen, ob man für solche Papierschneidearbeiten nicht ein Zubehörteil fertigen könnte. Dabei denke ich an eine Anschlagschiene die man mit Gewindeschrauben vorne und hinten ausrichten könnte.

If you don't have many pieces to cut at 1 time, it will work, more than that not so great

This trimmer was a replacement for a “cheaper” model from a different manufacturer. The trimmer was a pleasant surprise, the extra cost was immediately justified because the cutting was almost effortless and produced a clean sharp line. I cut both satin photo paper and matte canvas and got consistently great results each time. The model also has a magnetic clamp to hold the material in place and the measurements printed on the surface are great. If you’re in the market for a trimmer you can’t go wrong with this one.
