The compulsive new novel from the author of the Sunday Times Number One bestseller The Caller and Gallery of the Dead . AS ADDICTIVE AS A TV BOXSET! 'Every story one day comes to an end.' As roommates, they met for the first time in college. Two of the brightest minds ever to graduate from Stamford Psychology University. As adversaries, they met again in Quantico, Virginia. Robert Hunter had become the head of the LAPD’s Ultra Violent Crimes Unit. Lucien Folter had become the most prolific and dangerous serial killer the FBI had ever encountered. Now, after spending three and a half years locked in solitary confinement, Lucien has finally managed to break free. And he’s angry. For the past three and a half years, Lucien has thought of nothing else but vengeance. The person responsible for locking him away has to pay, he has to suffer. That person ... is Robert Hunter. And now it is finally time to execute the plan. I didn’t think I’d like this one, but I liked this one.
[Snack-Size Review] Hunting Evil (Hunter #10), by Chris Carter What It’s About: When Lucien Folter (the serial killer with the titular evil mind of the sixth book in this series) escapes from maximum security, he has one mission in mind: Get revenge on Robert Hunter, through any and all means at his disposal. And since he’s a super genius, there are plenty of those. A Word From The Nerd: If you’ve read my earlier review, you know that An Evil Mind was one of the weaker entries in this series. So I went into this one with lowered expectations which may have helped? In any case, there were a lot more action-y twists in this one, and Garcia & Hunter’s rapport is better than ever. That said, Mr. Carter is back to his he-man woman-hatin ways, and let’s just say that he didn’t exactly fridge a certain female character, but he might as well have. This is my disappointed face. The Nerd’s Rating: FOUR HAPPY NEURONS (and a trip to an Alice In Wonderland themed bar, it sounds like my kinda place.)

Spitze!
Was soll man zu Chris Carters Büchern schreiben?

Review
I can't believe we have reached the tenth stop on the Chris Carter blogathon. I've loved every single one of the novels and Hunting Evil is just as brilliant, although it is slightly different to the rest of the series in that we have already met the antagonist and we know he is committing the crimes as they happen. I would therefore recommend that you read the series from the beginning and you will not regret it. Lucien Folter is one of the most evil, calculated and twisted perpetrators I have ever met in literature. Chris Carter describes him and his horrific crimes in such detail that he genuinely sent chills down my spine and his crimes were incredibly creative, but very shocking to me. As always, the graphic scenes won't be for everyone, but I love how it takes me right to the heart of the action. The whole of Hunting Evil is full of tension as Hunter, Garcia and the team try to locate Lucien. I love the way the tension ebbs and flows throughout the story, peaking at some very dangerous moments and leaving me holding my breath. I could not stop turning the pages! I cannot wait to see where this series goes next!

Robert Hunter is Hunting the Evil Impersonated AKA...
... his old companion of High School, Lucien Folter. And the author Chris Carter himself admits that this is the first sequel he has ever written. The first book 'An Evil Mind' gives a lot of insight into the long history that Hunter and Lucien are sharing. If You didn't read that book - which I personally disliked to the point of NOT even writing a review for the in my eyes worst book in the Hunter series - You may dedicate some time reading it. Or You do not and read some reviews or resumes and spare the money. And as in Chapter 8 and 9 our Hunter has to explain EVERYTHING to Garcia who doesn't know about Lucien Folter and his capture. So that may suffice, too. That only as a kind of foreword to this thriller... Lee High Security prison in Virginia: A guard finds 2 dead watch men and a dead nurse in a bloodbath, all with their throat cut and weapons missing. He hits the alarm button - and that's the last thing he does in his life... So the evil impersonated Lucien Folter has escaped leaving 5 bodies behind. Only because of some stupid decisions some even more stupid paper pushers made by NOT putting him into the required Super-Max prison in total Isolation. 'Evil Impersonated' in a high-sec prison was enough for the Feebies, who wanted to study this beast in human form at Quantico! Now he's out to get to one of his old hiding places. But he left a message to Hunter, to prepare for a game. A deadly hunting game between the two of them... Robert Hunter refuses to head the US-wide investigation. He is LAPD, and Folter is now a case for the FBI and the US Marshals. But Lucien Folter is now leaving bodies behind, the way he always did. And then our Hunter gets a call from his old buddy Lucien, which is traced right to... Los Angeles Airport. That changes a lot, if not everything - because NOW the game takes place right in Hunter's and Garcia's 'playground'. And with Folter being a genius in disguises, accents, and able to hypnotize normal persons easily, this manhunt will be a long and bloody one... Which now involves US Marshal West and FBI Special Agent Holbrook, too. And the game is up, commanded by the Bad Guy. Who is challenging Hunter with riddles to save people from being killed. And the first one goes 30 to 0 (in body count...) to Folter. The hard reality strikes the Law Enforcers - they had never any chance to save those innocents. Because the Hunted Evil has become the real hunter now. And nothing can stop his revenge. And the next killings are personally aimed at Robert and they hit the target hard. But everything comes to an end and so is this book. Before that we have to go through a showdown where the bad bad Lucien is talking way too much for my liking. But I NEVER could stand that bad bad caricature of a serial killer, a perp who is gloating and glorifying himself. Not in the first book and even less in this sequel I could easily done without... OK - we all know what kind of thrillers the author Chris Carter is writing, so prepare Yourself for the worst. Cruelty, torture and blood in abundance are at the order of the day. And that monster seems to play them all. But it is the twisted personality of the bad guy that makes this book so improbable. Too much of everything and nothing sounds really true. So I give it a 4**** rating, because here less would have been a lot more in MY eyes...
