Q: If the lock is in a place that doesn't have wifi, will I still be able to connect to it remotely?

Hello, The lock does not use a wifi signal (one of our favorite advertising points is that the lock functions even without internet). The lock has a data base of codes that work in various circumstances, when you pair your phone to the lock, the bluetooth key is used to encrypt the codes so that only your phone can generate working codes. When you need to generate a code you will use your phone to ask the app which codes work for the time you specify, the app will then provide you with a working code. It's a little hard to imagine but think of it like this: All the codes you will EVER generate have already been generated when you paired your lock to your phone. When you click the button to generate a new code, all you are really doing is asking your app, which code will work for what you need it to do. However, if you wanted to change the code from the one that is generated to a new one of your own custom length and digits, you will need to be within Bluetooth range of about 10 meters.

Q: Will it operate in the cold? I am thinking about using it for a fence but it needs to work in a Minnesota Winter

it keeps dying here in california so if it can't make it here i doubt it's gonna do well somewhere more harsh... i would reccomend acoiding it

Q: Is this product waterproof?

Hello, as there seems to be confusion on this front I wanted to step in here. So the very first run of these was released a little over 6 months ago. The first batch has a known issue where the seals were not strong enough. Since then the Igloohome Smart Padlock has gone through 2 revisions with more to come. The water resistance issue has been solved in later versions. While of course you cannot submerge the product completely for an extended period, the unit is water resistant and will survive most weather conditions. If you have an older unit we are also able to provide a water proof silicon cover with proof of purchase. Q: About how long do batteries last in this device?

The battery life is 9-12 months. You must use Alkaline batteries, we recommend Energizer or Duracell. Use of other type of batteries will not only reduce batter life but may decrease the lifetime of the lock. I have tested "Heavy Duty" batteries myself and found a consistent 1.5 month battery life. While Duracell can last up to a year. This is all dependent on usage obviously, a lock opened every day will last longer then one used once a week.
