can you use the front protector with a different back protector

I have a silicone case for my phone and the front protector screen fits on perfectly. Hope this helps you.

Does this really fit an iphone se 2020? most cases leave a gap on the two vertical sides

Yes it fits an iPhone se 2020. I suppose the amount of gap does depend on the case. Fits well with mine.

Does this fit the older version SE?

It does not fit the original SE which is smaller. It fits the SE 2020 (which I have) and the latest SE 2022 which are both the same size. If not on the Amazon site the likes of B&M may have one suitable for the original SE

are these fully clear as the photo shows black areas top/bottom and edges?

They are not completely clear. They are as picture shows with black at top and bottom.
