Love this wooden rolling pin
I got a call one evening, prior to the holidays. Check out this rolling pin, you NEED to buy it, my friend said. I have a rolling pin, what do I need with another one? This one has discs you add to the side to measure your dough thickness. The price was absolutely amazing! I scored it at a low, low price of $6.38! Yes, that's correct! A savings of almost $20!Now, let me just say, I love to bake - biscuits, breads, cinnamon rolls, etc. When recipe called for X inches I'd do one of two things - I'd either guess or I'd take a wooden ruler and measure - what a pain in the @$$. The beautiful thing about this rolling pin is that there is no more guess work involved. You just place the discs on for the thickness you need, and you roll out your dough - it's just that easy. The pin is just as easy to clean up as any other wooden rolling pin. I handwash the plastic discs, but I'm sure they could probably be washed in the top rack of the dishwasher. As for the only downside, because of the width of the rolling pin (13.5 in.) add a little when the discs are on, you can't roll out wide pieces of dough. Most of what I bake don't require rolling out over 12 inches, but for things like big batch cookies, we separate our dough and roll out, problem solved.I love this rolling pin and wish I'd bought more to gift when they were priced so low before the holidays. If I ever see them that cheap again, I will be sure to buy some to give as wedding presents or Christmas gifts!

Great tool for perfection!
I bought this rolling pin to be able to roll out my dough to the perfect, uniform thickness. Before my cookies would come out with different thicknesses between each cookie, but I don't have that problem anymore! The guides on the side of the rolling pin help you to achieve your perfect thickness so all your cookies come out the same. No more burnt edges and underdone cookies when taking them out of the oven! There are also measurement marks on the pin to help shape your dough to the perfect size. One thing that's odd and different than other rolling pins is that there are no handles. The rings on both sides of the rolling pin make it so there are no handles, and you can't comfortably put your hands there. You end up having to hold the rolling pin closer to the center, which is a bit odd at first, but you can get used to the new grip quickly. One idea for improvement is to add handles. There are end caps on either side to screw in and hold the rings in place, but you could easily screw in a handle instead if Joseph Joseph made one.You also have to change your technique for rolling your dough, because now your dough can never be wider than your rolling pin; the rings always have to touch the work surface. The Joseph Joseph rolling pin makes up for this by making the rolling pin much longer than other ones I've used. But, you still have to make sure that your dough doesn't become too wide.Overall I really like my Joseph Joseph rolling pin and will be using it for all my baking projects!

Good, and easily fine-tuned.
Almost excellent.Advertised at 2 to 10 mm adjustments, potential users should consider applications. The spacers and holding screw are all hard plastic, much better than the “rubber band” approach, and seem adequate. Even so, there is nominally 0.05mm difference between the OD of the axel/screw, nominally 18.5mm, and the ID of the spacers, nominally 19mm. This is likely insignificant for the larger spacers, but significant for the 2mm spacer.Dough usually springs back a bit, thus, even for a simple cracker dough, the result with the 2mm spacer is thicker than 2mm. In addition, at such a small overhang for the spacer, the diameters described above produce overhangs from 1.5mm to 2.5 mm. Though one cannot eliminate the variation in pin to surface spacing, the use of one or more silicone baking sheets, or other spacing material, for the dough, with the spacers straddling the baking sheets, with quick follow up using a regular rolling pin, got better uniformity and faster results. At the larger settings, one would likely have excellent results. For those inclined, the actual measurements according to my calipers were:45.3mm - nominal pin diameter2mm spacer - 1.7mm nominal clearance, 1/16” clearance would be 1.6mm4mm spacer - 3.6mm nominal clearance, 1/6” clearance would be 4.24mm6mm spacer - 5.4mm nomnal clearance, 1/4’ clearance would be 6.26mm10mm spacer - 9.55 nominal clearance, 3/8” clearance would be 9.5mmThe yellow spacer is undersized but closer to 1/16” than it is to 2mm.The orange spacer is a bit undersized, but closer to 4mm than it is to 1/6”The red spacer is undersized but closer to 6mm than it is to 1/4”The blue spacer is closer to 3/8” than to 10mm, but only by about 0.05mm.Fortunately, with dough, it should all work out rather well.
