works well for deeper ponds with uneven bottoms
These are pretty cool. I don't have much flat surface to work with in the living pond I maintain, so these proved surprisingly helpful since they conform to the bottom of the pond, or the rocks in the pond which support all the plants at various elevations. I made sure to keep 4 inches of freeboard above the soil level. The trickiest part is placing the filled planter in the pond because at some point critical mass is reached and the pond will flood into a corner of the basket and it all becomes very heavy and chaotic for a moment. Just brace yourself and you'll get through that part fine and have a great underwater planting container. Recommend measuring your square footage available, the 18" planters are really generously sized. I was able to plant 20 baby lotus in each.

Wonderful pots
These pot are great quality.. I would buy them again. They even give you a screen for the bottom. Love it

With the right plant these are a great option
Bought these hoping they would be easier to place in my small pond than a traditional pot. I have a horsetail grass in one and a tall papyrus in the other. I love that they blend visually with the black liner and they do 'hug' the side of the pond shelf better than a plastic pot. The downside is that they are floppy, and don't do much to help support the plant structurally. We've tried filling around the root ball with rocks and growing medium but that poor papyrus is winning and continues to tip and pop himself out of the liner. If you have something stocky and stable these are a great option. If you need something to help support and stabilize a taller plant you might want to look for an alternative. As far as the actual product goes these are a nice, thick fabric without a chemical feel or smell. I didn't hesitate to use them with my fish.

Nice fine mesh
Repotting my water lily. These are a nice upgrade and a nice size. Better than those fabric bags u get.

One was unsewn
It's a good thing there were two in the package, because one was half unsewn on the bottom. I really only needed one to repot a water lily, but I thought I would use the other for another plant that was getting crowded in its pot. My mom worked her sewing magic and fixed it, but I was pretty disappointed with the quality. On a positive note, the one that was intact held when I filled it with soil, lily, and gravel and wet it down.I wish they had handles on the sides. I used the drawstring to help me lower it into position.

Product not as advertised
Unfortunately, like other reviewers experienced, these plant holders arrived without the advertised drawstring, but merely with four holes in the fabric. This points towards a persistent quality assurance issue at Aquascape, or misleading advertising in the product description. And when I called Aquascape customer care to call their attention to this recurring issue, they showed no interest in which product I had purchased, or what the defect was. So not sure I'd expect the issue to be resolved anytime soon. Disappointing.

Perfect for my water lily
My water lily had grown out of its pot, literally split the side. I transplanted it to this pot, used some soil designed for pond plants, and replaced it back in my pond. It has put out tons of new growth and seems very happy. The review is asking about the "sheerness", which I'm pretty sure is irrelevant. It's a black mesh which is sturdy enough and thick enough to hold in the soil. Whether or not the lily will break through I guess I will have to wait to find out.
