I had never even heard of onigiri before seeing a video about it recently. I don’t even eat much rice, but this set made me want to try it, and I’m so glad I did! For anyone else in the U.S. who hasn't tried Onigiri yet, they are basically Japanese rice balls, and they are a great option for quick, healthy snacks or lunches. This HAGBOU mold set is incredibly easy to use, even if you have zero experience. I did learn that you need to use a sticky type of rice or it will just fall apart. I tried jasmine rice and minute rice, but neither one worked very well. I hear you can look for sushi rice or medium-grain rice. I ended up buying some rice from California called Calrose rice. It's supposed to be just like Japanese rice and a lot of sushi restaurants in the U.S. use it because it's a good price. Because if its high starch content, it’s sticky enough to hold its shape perfectly in the mold. Just make sure to work with the rice while it's still warm! So far, I’ve made crab, tuna, chicken, and avocado versions. It’s great because you can fill them with almost anything. If you're looking for a simple way to try something different, or just want to try a fun DIY kitchen project, this set is perfect. I think this could even be a fun project for kids. Pros: Simple to use even for total beginners. Easy to clean and the rice pops right out. Great for quick, portable, healthy meal prep. Highly recommend!

I've been using these Onigiri Rice Ball Mold Makers for three years now, and they've held up well without any wear and tear after many contacts with hot and cold rice and many maaany trips to the dishwasher! Is it worth it for the price? Definitely! They're sturdy, easy to use, and have become a reliable part of my kitchen. Positives: Perfect for those still learning the art of onigiri without the patience for the traditional hand method. These molds consistently deliver uniform-sized onigiri, great for serving a crowd or maintaining a polished presentation. The flexible plastic at the back makes extracting the rice balls a breeze, and the included spatula has become a handy tool for all my rice dishes. A notable bonus is that they come in two sizes, which is excellent for portion control. Neutral: If you happen to overstuff the rice a bit, the flexible plastic might leave a mark. No big deal—just a gentle press can fix it for a more handmade look. Negatives: These molds are pretty straightforward and user-friendly. I can't think of any significant drawbacks, and the fact that they're machine washable is a nice bonus. Overall: Highly recommended for beginners and anyone looking to simplify the onigiri-making process. They've been a reliable addition to my kitchen for the past three years, and the dual sizes are a great help for portion control.

These onigiri molds are the prefect tool for making Japanese rice balls with confidence and precision that only comes with years of practice of making it traditionally by hand. This set comes with a large mold, a small mold, and a rice spoon. It is easy to use and washes up nicely by hand with hot soapy water. I use them for picnics and in my childrens' bento lunches. Tips: Wet your molds before using. This reduces the stickiness and makes it easier to use. Sprinkle some salt in the molds before putting in the rice. This helps to preserve it, for travelling. Grade A+

They’re the right size, easy to use and handle, and work great to get the shape and have filling inside! I do wish the push part on the bottom was a bit more enclosed as my tuna mix seeped out all over the counter when I pushed the mold together but other than that I’m really happy with this purchase!!

I love this mold. It is the perfect size for when I am making a quick snack for my kids or packing my husbands lunch. Its small and cute and there is two different sizes that comes in the pack. My littles enjoy making rice cakes with them and they're easy to use. I do not have an issue with cleaning and we use them almost every week with no wear or cracks. Our little onigiri's come out tasting perfect every time and we've ventured out to different fillings and designs as well. I do not have any issue with the rice sticking to the mold as well, will order more.

These are so perfect. I am used to making onigiri by hand with plastic wrap in my palm or in a bowl, and they are often lumpy, which is fine for at home but not if you're serving guests. These make absolutely adorable little compact triangles and they compress the rice enough when you press it closed that the result does not fall apart at all. They come out of the mold easily without getting stuck. I am so happy with this purchase. Cheap and does PRECISELY what I need it to do. I have been making onigiri more frequently now that I own this because it's just so easy. I can throw the rice in the rice cooker, add sugar and vinegar and seasonings when it's done, pop some into this mold with avocado or whatever fits my fancy, and it's finished. If you're tired of your onigiri coming out irregular, or of wrestling with sticky plastic wrap, get these!

I should have really looked at the dimensions because these are much smaller than I anticipated, smaller than my handmade onigiri. Due to review suggestions I lined them with plastic wrap, and from a friend's suggestion I made sure to use enough rice. If you don't use enough rice there won't be enough to properly enclose the filling and won't compressed properly. They'll be loose and break, or you'll break the mold trying to pop them out. I really, really recommend using plastic wrap. They'll slip right out and then will be nicely covered, so you can use your hands to compress them a bit more to finish them off. I was surprised that even with the little one I was able to get some filling in there. (Pictured are four large with filling, one small with filling, and two plain with a little shichimi togarashi.)

These were perfect! My seven yr old has been into Japanese food TikTok’s so I picked these up to make onigiri. They worked so well, we made a bunch and had leftovers. They are a bit smaller than I expected but it turned out better for us. We wore gloves to keep the food/our hands clean so there was very little mess. You literally just put a layer of warm rice in, a bit of filling of your choice, then more rice to cover, squish and pop out! You can put whatever you like inside, we made the mini ones with pickle chunks (we didn’t have plums), and then the big ones with vegan pork bites, and vegan tuna with mayo. They were easy to pan fry and didn’t fall apart. The absolute best thing though, was the mini rice paddle!!!! It was super easy to get the right amount of rice in the mould each time with the mini paddle and it is so cute my son screamed when he opened the package. We are going to try kimbap fillings next! 158/10 would buy again arrived fast and worked perfectly 🍙☺️🩷
