A Precise and Practical Guide to Sharpening
This book contains very precise and practical knowledge about sharpening techniques. I bought it as a complement to Knife Engineering by Larrin Thomas, but I ended up liking this one much more.

Sharpening Obsession
Vadim Kraichuk shows his knowledge and passion in this book. It is a must read for sharpening enthusiasts. The title, taken apart from context is slightly misleading; perhaps "The Sharpening Burr, the last barrier to perfection" could have served better.Aside from all the superlatives one could laud upon this book, there are a few shortfalls. One is the reference-dependence on the author's website. Personally, I find it distracting to become invested in a theory only to be told the idea will be developed in it's full on the website. Dr Kraichuk has passed and, at this time , we are still fortunate to have access to his website. Not unlike true visionaries, Dr Kraichuk is critical of alternative methods. He is heavily invested in the Tormek sharpening approach however he also seems to have been evolving alternate systems that take the best of the Tormek process but abandon the pricy Tormek mechanism. One has to study the book and website to glean this information. This is a book that has attempted to have both excellent theory and to demonstrate theory in practice. It could benefit from a rewrite, to clean up the ESL wording and merge the website references into the written text. Still, a worthwhile addition to the sharpeners' edge.

Short, dense, confusing, indispensable
Sharpening a knife is not very complicated except for deburring. This very short book has more information about deburring than any other source I have seen on paper or the Internet. Different kinds of steel react differently to various deburring methods. If you try to sharpen a wide variety of steels without understanding these differenced, you will be frustrated. However, the writing is not very clear. I advise taking notes and reading the book at least twice. It is worth the effort.

sadly, the author passed suddenly
The author from Australia has done extensive scientific research when it comes to the field of Knife Sharpening. Highly recommend this book. Highly, highly.
