I picked this up on a bit of a purchase binge, building up my reference library for the F/A-18 Hornet.If you want a modern hornet photo reference, that's ... precisely what this is. Detail and Scale's photo section, if you remember those books, writ large. Lots of good shots of practically every piece of the aircraft.If you're looking for development history or historic photos, this isn't the reference you need. It won't go into (say) preproduction aircraft and if/when they had certain markings, the short or current ailerons, snags, etc.Wanting to superdetail a modern hornet kit, though? This is absolutely what you want.

I am a hobby person, so I knew what this book was all about before I bought it. It's exactly what you need if you want to build a model of the Hornet. He also put out a Super Hornet book, but it's long sold out and listed at scalper prices. The author has several books out with excellent photos and the frequently sell out, so if you think you might want it, don't put it off too long. As said before, there are detail photos of everywhere on the aircraft plus whole aircraft shots. I work around these aircraft every day, but I'm not allowed to take a camera in to work, so this is the next best thing.

Fantastic full color reference for the scale modeler or hornet aficionado. A lot of excellent photos that aren't readily available elsewhere. Includes an excellent and informative weapon section at the end that encompasses many of the stores that can be carried.The book's format makes it easy to find what you're looking for. It's hard to put this one down!Recommended.

Jake Melampy has put out a book filled with excellent photos of the F-18. Every tiny detail is present in this book and is a must have for model builders. I only gave the book 3 stars because it lacks photos of the actual aircraft itself. The description when purchasing the book stated that this book payed special attention too foreign operators but there is really only a handful of photos of Kuwaiti, Malaysian, Spanish,Swiss and Finnish hornets. I thought that this book would have photos of the hornet that have not been published before but as stated, there is only a handful of these. Instead the book looks at every aspect of the hornet from its avionics to it tailhook. As mentioned, great for modelers but not so great for those looking to see much information on the foreign operators.

Wonderful! Complete and comprehensive with lots of unique, detailed pictures for modellers.

Excellent subject matter. Dated now that our forces fly the E & F models. Great for model builders.

The best guide for anyone wanting to build a scale model of the hornet.
