Man Approved
Man-Approved! As a guy who colors his hair, Garnier Olia is the best product out there, hands down. My main issue with other dyes was that stinging, brutal ammonia smell—this one is ammonia-free and has a subtle, clean scent that makes the whole process tolerable. The oil-powered formula is great; it doesn't leave my short hair feeling dried out or brittle. The color is rich, lasts well, and the application is straightforward and non-messy. I get excellent gray coverage without the typical harshness. If you’re a man looking for a high-quality, gentle dye that just works and doesn't smell like a chemistry lab, Olia is the answer. Highly recommend!

Perfect and vibrant
Ordered Black 1.0, and it came out just how I wanted. The perfect black, my hair feels healthy still and the shine is beautiful. The box does say that it’s not recommended for highlighted hair, but my hair was lightly highlighted and it covered it perfectly. Also had quite a few grays coming in and I don’t see them now. Just a tip if you’re not familiar with dying your hair yourself, you’re going to want to rinse your hair more than twice in the shower. If it runs clear and you think you’re done, think again. Also another tip: the first time styling your hair, the black will run off on your hands, and possibly your bedsheets or pillowcase. It’s not a defect in the hair dye itself, it’s just a result of dying in your hair black with any brand of hair dye. But I do love it!! I definitely recommend. **UPDATE** Just wanted to update that black has not faded yet, which I have experienced pretty quickly in the past with other dyes. I’ve washed my hair about five times already with color safe shampoo & conditioner, and the color is still vibrant! Updated photo is the one with straight hair.

Left my hair soft and beautifully red.
I was getting skeptical when I saw the dye looking watery and orange looking. But it left my hair red like it was supposed to! Left it soft and smelling amazing. Hopefully it lasts long but overall loved it 🥰

Gentle, ammonia‑free black hair color I’ve trusted for years
I’ve been using Garnier Olia 1.0 Black for over six years now, and it’s one of the few permanent hair dyes I keep coming back to. The biggest reason is that it’s ammonia‑free, which makes it much gentler than many other options I’ve tried. It doesn’t have that harsh, eye‑watering chemical smell, and it feels far less irritating on my scalp during application. The application process is straightforward—mix the colorant with the developer, shake well, and apply first to the roots, then through the lengths. The included gloves and conditioner make it easy to do everything at home without extra tools. The formula, powered by oils like sunflower and camellia, spreads smoothly and feels more nourishing than standard dyes. Color‑wise, the shade is a rich, deep black with natural reflects. It provides full gray coverage and makes my hair look healthy and shiny right after coloring. That said, one trade‑off I’ve noticed over the years—and something others mention in reviews—is that it does fade faster than some ammonia‑based dyes. The vibrancy starts to soften after a few weeks, especially with frequent washing. On the plus side, even as it fades, it does so evenly without leaving patchy tones. My hair always feels soft and manageable afterward, with no straw‑like dryness that some dyes can cause. Being vegan and free of silicones, parabens, and phthalates is another bonus for me, as I prefer formulas with fewer harsh additives. Overall, while the color longevity could be better, the comfort, gentleness, and healthy feel it leaves in my hair make it worth sticking with. For anyone who wants a rich black shade without the strong odor and irritation that come with ammonia, this is still one of the best options out there.

Quality product leave hair soft & silky
I tried this product after my original product was hard to find in stores. (Used to use Feria) I like this quality much better. Leave my hair feeling silky rather that stripped & brittle. The color is beautiful. I have never colored my hair in a salon. This product works lovely.

A strong contender in the ammonia-free hair dye market.
Garnier Hair Color Olia is a popular choice for those looking for an ammonia-free hair dye with a focus on nourishing and vibrant results. Here’s a comprehensive review based on its key features and performance: Pros: Ammonia-Free Formula: One of the standout features is that Olia is free from ammonia. This can make the application process more pleasant and less harsh on the hair and scalp. It also helps to reduce the strong chemical smell often associated with hair dyes. Oil-Rich Formula: The dye is infused with natural oils (like flower oils), which help to nourish and condition the hair during the coloring process. This can leave hair feeling softer and looking shinier compared to some other dyes that can be drying. Rich, Long-Lasting Color: Many users report that the color results are vibrant and long-lasting. The dye is designed to penetrate deeply into the hair fiber, which helps the color to stay true and not fade quickly. Pleasant Scent: Compared to traditional hair dyes, the scent of Olia is generally considered to be more pleasant, likely due to the absence of ammonia. Wide Range of Shades: Garnier Olia offers a broad spectrum of shades, from natural to vibrant colors, making it easy to find a hue that suits your preferences. Good Coverage: It provides excellent coverage for gray hair, which is a significant benefit for those looking to cover up grays. Cons: Application: Some users find the application process a bit tricky. The oil-rich formula can be thicker and might not spread as easily as other dyes. This can sometimes make it harder to ensure even application. Development Time: The processing time might be longer compared to some other dyes, which could be a consideration if you’re looking for a quick coloring solution. Color Variability: As with any hair dye, results can vary depending on your starting hair color and type. It’s a good idea to do a strand test before applying the dye to your entire head to ensure you get the desired shade. Price: Garnier Olia can be a bit pricier compared to some drugstore hair dyes. However, the benefits of an ammonia-free formula and nourishing oils might justify the cost for many users. Overall: Garnier Hair Color Olia is a strong contender in the ammonia-free hair dye market. It offers vibrant, long-lasting color while being gentler on the hair thanks to its oil-rich formula. It’s a great choice for those looking to avoid ammonia and who appreciate added conditioning benefits. While the application might require a bit more effort and the price is slightly higher, the results often justify these considerations.

NOT 100% grey coverage!
The color is great but the one thing I didn’t like was that it did not provide 100% coverage for the greys in my hair. I saturated my hair (2 bottles) yet still had some(but not much) grey showing after rinsing. Over the course of a week later I had much more of my grey hairs showing through, so the color just didn’t take. Another positive is that the brand is very easy on the hair, not harsh at all, it just didn’t work well for me.

A quality hair dye, with quality results!
I love Garnier Hair Color Olia, in the variant Golden Brown. I have naturally medium brown hair. This hair dye slightly lightens my natural color by a few shades, akin to using "Sun In." This product, however, has been very safe to repeatedly dye my hair with. I could use it every two or three weeks with no issues (although, I stick to about four weeks). However, it is also safe if you'd like to mix in "LIW pH mix." I personally used this with my dye - I added this liquid into the colorant bottle and slightly mixed it before applying the dye. This is not required; I do this as an extra step to make my hair softer and perhaps protect it more (and it is a separate purchase, just to clarify). This dye has multiple benefits. The smell is pleasant and not harsh. Additionally, I don't notice much fall out at all. I could leave this in my hair for 30-40 mins, rinse out, and my hair feels like it's in great condition (although I do use a conditioning shampoo and conditioner afterwards.) And with gray coverage? I had quite a bit of gray hair - I am in my mid 20s, so not all gray yet, but a good amount. This dye did cover most of my grays, and now it is impossible to tell that I had as much gray hair as I used to. Any drawbacks to this product? Not that I can think of! I use one box to dye my hair with, although my hair is medium length, which means if your hair is longer, you'll benefit from using two boxes. I have repurchased this product multiple times. I've been told that it's hard to tell that I'm using box dye. This is a great quality dye for the price point, but I cannot guarantee the results you'll receive if dyeing predominately gray hair. This product allows for root touch-ups or full coverage; in the latter case, you'd likely be dyeing your entire head of hair every 4-6 weeks to cover grays, while using a color-safe shampoo of your choice to extend the color.
