can you operate this unit manually or do you need the electronics?

You can operate manually. I attached a light line as I train solo. Just ordered the transmitter as it’s a pain to effectively teach my dog. Spend the money and buy w the electronics.

Does this come with the electronic actuator so you can add the remote launcher to it at a later time?

It does not, I purchased it along time ago and I have never used it? If you still instead in purchasing one I'll sell mine at a reduced price then Amazon to you.
