Cotton on The Go Crossbody Purse

I have been using Vera Bradley's handbags for years. Unfortunately the newer made in China bags keep changing. I used to favor Mandy, but had my wallet stolen out of one, so wanted a Cross body to make that harder for light fingers. I recently purchased my 3RD On the Go Crossbody. I don't like the piping they use in the outside seams now. On my last crossbody (#2),pictured, used about 18 months, a small strip of the piping on one corner wore away from rubbing against my body. The other 3 corners are also worn but the white doesn't show yet. My original crossbody (#1) didn't have piping in the seams. The new crossbody has a different lining, the description says polyester, it feels like a slick umbrella fabric. Also this newest has changed the inside slip pockets from 3 small to 2 larger, which doesn't matter to me. I knew in advance from the product description picture that the outside zipper pocket is now metal, different from the (nylon?) zipper for the top opening. The first time I unzipped the metal zipper, I thought I would have to return it because it stuck and I had to tug repeatedly to get it to zip shut. I don't use the outside pocket often and now know not to zip it all the way open. Then there is the changed base. In the past all of my Vera Bradley handbags have had a heavy cardboard that slid into a pocket in the inside base, giving stability, and didn't fall over. (The cardboard has to be removed in the older versions when washing.) This latest Crossbody has no base pocket with cardboard. When it first arrived the base was folded in half lengthwise, making it ship flat. At first my bag wouldn't stand upright, kept falling over, but after a couple weeks use it does stand upright. All considered, I still like Vera Bradley handbags, but in my opinion, older ones are a little better quality than they are now. My original crossbody, gifted to me guessing 13+ years ago looks brand new, with no fade, no wear and I probably carried it the longest. Just wanted a new prints.

I was nervous that it would be too small or big, but it’s just the right size! It looks like good quality that will hold up with time. It’s shoulder strap is thick enough to not bother my shoulder. And best of all is I can add baby bottles, bottles of water, sun glasses and whatever to the side pockets. I also like the outside zipper pocket for quick access to my iPhone plus, with extra room for keys and more. The inside is roomy enough for a couple little books and a big wallet.

I’m very disappointed with this purchase. I’ve been buying this cross body for several years because I love the style and all the pockets. I guess I should have read the description better and not assumed it would be like all the others with the same name that I’ve purchased in the past. The two outside pockets on each end of the purse are what I would call ‘poofy” where they used to be more tight. Inside the purse there are only two slip pockets instead of three. And again they seem loose especially with the new fabric used inside. The strap is slippery and adjusts itself while on my shoulder. I guess it’s time to start looking for a new brand to buy since Vera isn’t the quality it used to be. I did give this purse one star though because I love the color and pattern.

I just purchased the on the go by Vera Bradley in the new patterns painted medallions and falling flowers. I have many VB bags including several of the old style on the go with the contrasting trim inside. Overall I am not thrilled with the "new" on the go. Most of the charm has been lost to the lack of the contrasting trim on both the outside and inside of the bag. I have even gotten used to the cheaper cotton/poly blend VB is using now, and the strong chemical on the bags when they arrive. However, I have finally reached my limit with VB. The new patterns have a different zipper pull. They no longer have the standard zipper pulls with ribbons that say VB. These new bags have a plasticky, cheap zipper pull that literally bends. They are so slippery that I am having issues grabbing them and holding on to them to close the bag. I have never had a problem with a zipper before on any VB bag I own, and I have at least thirty bags in different styles, and older patterns. I just give up. The constant changes on VB products, and the lowering of quality is such a turn off. Everything is China cheap now. No more uniqueness, or quality. Just whatever makes more money for their stock holders. I will be moving onto another brand.

The polyester lining, and poor quality metal zipper really cheapen this bag. It hardly resembles old VB products.

Love the pattern and the size and style. The fabric and way the side pockets are sewn seem cheaper than some of her other purses. The piece of cardboard on the bottom to keep the bottom firm also seems not as thick and so it’s kind of flimsy. I haven’t bought a purse of hers in awhile so maybe the quality went down? I have no idea. This just doesn’t seem to be the same quality as her older purses. I still like it though and will use it.

I like this purse a lot although I prefer the design it replaced. The side pocket zipper is metal and rough when you reach in. This one has 2 larger open pockets rather than 3 smaller ones inside, and my cards seem to get lost in them. The pink trim is a little brighter than I expected.That said I really love the pattern. It will compliment pretty much any solid color. It’s a great size for me. It holds all of my essentials, and I can throw a paperback in there if I’m going to be waiting for an appointment.

This bag would have been great if not for the stiff zipper on the main opening of the bag. The zipper sticks and is not filed down so it catches on things and scratches you every time you try to get into and out of the bag. If this zipper was just on a side pocket that would rarely be used I might be able to tolerate it but on the main opening of the bag, no way. I also thought the bag was on the small side for my use case.

I love Vera Bradley purses this one is the perfect size for me as well the color is beautiful
