Martika - The Best of Martika: More Than You Know
T**T
One good song
I bought this for Toy soldiers, but there are also some interesting numbers, with a definite influence of Prince about them. All in all a worthwhile dip into something different.

Pop music at its finest!
Pop music right now must be lacking in substance as I find myself searching for my old childhood records on CD. This offering from Martika provides a reminder of how good pop music should be.On face value, "The Best Of Martika" provides a blend of uncomplicated bubblegum pop - delivered in the form of "More Than You Know" and the delectable "Coloured Kisses" - and rockier numbers like "I Feel The Earth Move" and "Cross My Heart" (which stomps all over the dodgy Eighth Wonder version). Although at times the songs sound quite dated, they will carry any pop-loving child of the 80's back to the era of screwball icecreams, sherbert dip-dabs and school discos. But look beyond the surface and you will come across a myriad of mature offerings - from the hauntingly melodic beats of the finely Prince-penned "Love...Thy Will Be Done", the beautiful "Safe in the Arms of Love" and the moody Michel Jay classic "Toy Soldiers" - which more than carry the slightly disappointing B-siders of "Spirit" and "Don't Say You Love Me" (it would've been nice to see "Take Me To Forever" and "Broken Heart" which were much stronger tracks from her second album).Overall, a fantastic collection from a somewhat under-rated 80's artist.
