Three thousand year old scrolls show that licorice was part of the Egyptian and Assyrian cultures in ancient times. It originated in southern Europe and western Asia, but now grows in various countries across the world. Licorice roots are currently cultivated for both their flavor and medicinal uses. Also known as 'sweet wood' licorice is usually collected when sweetest; in the autumn of its fourth year. This tea is powerfully sweet and enjoyable. We hope you like it! Review: Use decoction method (steeped at a simmer) - For Best Taste... Plus a Comparison Celebration Herbals' licorice tea is extraordinary; however, it must be steeped in simmering water (decoction method) for at least 20 minutes, otherwise it will have very little flavor. The licorice crop used by Celebration Herbals differs from the crop Traditional Medicinals uses. Traditional Medicinals' licorice tastes best at a 10-minute steep, using the infusion method (water just off the boil, but not still boiling). Traditional Medicinals' licorice gets extremely bitter with longer steeping times (and with boiling water), while Celebration Herbals' licorice needs the long steeping time and boiling water to achieve the proper flavor.
