The Bible in itself is good, BUT..
YES, only two stars for a Bible? how come..Like i said in the title the NIV translation in itself is quite pleasant and nice to read,..BUTthe commentaries,... seriously.. who on Earth wrote these commentaries ? I cant even qualify them as pathetic because in certain cases they are even worse than this ... They are, sorry to say so, but an insult to dogmatic and systematic theology.. mainly focusing with what the text reads, instead of what the text says.. 99% of cases, verses are taken out of their context to claim something they did not say at all, and seriously, this is one of the most irritating aspect of this Bible... Commenting a text is a fab idea, but please, consider when it was written, for who it was written and what were the authors trying to say...if you want a fantastic book, easy to read and with a much higher level of biblical integrity, get yourself a copy of Alistair McGrath CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY which is a very good textbook of systematic theology. or if you want a bible with commentaries that are a bit more elaborate than the ones on the LIfe application study bible, , get yourself the Christian Community Bible.. it is not perfect by all mean, but comments are of a higher standard and quality than the ones found on the life application study bible. whose comments are definitely "bible belt pure evangelical" style..btw. I m not Roman Catholic..
