I would say it's super thick, and I'm returning this bra. I've had flotation devices with less padding! And the padding is not removable.

Q: Is the enclosure smooth and soft? I have problems with that being itchy.

It is smooth and soft. I, too, hate itchy, stiff, bothersome clothing, including tags. These bras are very comfortable.

Q: does it add a cup size?

It did for me. I, actually, love this bra. I'm kinda small on the top and this adds nice fulness and shape.
