Does it play nicely with Ableton?

it plays fine on logic pro X and my akai mpc one so should be fine with any D.a.w including ableton live

New to this... can you use this on recording software on a laptop for example Ableton or FL studio?

Yes, you can control it via MIDI from your software. You will need to get a USB to MIDI interface and the appropriate cables. The manual will tell you how to assign its MIDI channel.

Is the audio output from the back stereo or mono? I plugged my headphones in and it was only mono and wondering if its faulty.

Hi- the rear output is mono (the whole thing is mono), but if you use the 3.5mm front headphone socket, you get sound out of both headphones. It's still mono (same signal both sides), but it does come out of both sides.
