Giro Carbide R Mens Cycling Shoes

This shoe is a high quality shoe... seriously great power transfer on the bike and stable during short stints off the bike, but it's narrow. I don't normally wear a wide shoe at all so I figured these would be A.OK. Sure enough they fit fine length wise and even width was okish.... but after riding in them my pinky toes started to throb and they just got worse. I did a 3 hour ride on Saturday and today is Tuesday and one of my toes still hurts. If you don't have abnormally narrow feet, don't buy these.

To start with, I'm an avid roadie. I average over 4,000 miles per year. My last pair of shoes were Soecialized BG, which were a little tight on my toes and often caused numbness on long rides. I wear at 13 U.S. which is a 48, but I ordered a 49, and I'm glad I did. These fit wonderfully and I have plenty of toe room. The soles are stiff, and they have excellent power transfer. These shoes are very comfortable. Another thing I like and these is that the cleats are recessed into the shoe better than my last pair. I can walk on pavement in these and not feel the grinding of my cleats. To make a long story short, yes I highly recommend these. UPDATE: Thousands of miles in these shoes now, and they are still like new. Maybe even better, because the are broken in now. These are the best cycling shoes I've ever had. I love them.

Long time MTBer here. Never owned Giro MTB shoes before and never ordered bike shoes online without trying on first. Wasn't really expecting a great shoe for this price but I was pleasantly surprised. They are great shoes. I wear a US men's size 10 in all casual and athletic shoes. I ordered a 44 in these and the fit is perfect. They even fit OK with my Woolie Boolie winter socks. The fit is snug but not so much in the toe box which is exactly what I need in an MTB shoe. Do note however that I do not have an exceptionally wide foot. The sole is VERY stiff. Again, exactly what I wanted so no power is lost in the pedal stroke. I use Crank Bros Candy pedals. I used the shims for the cleat installation and the pedal engagement is easy and exact. Even with the shims I can walk in these and the cleats not click the floor or pavement when I walk.These are billed as entry level shoes but from my experience I would have to say they are at least one level above that. Well worth the $52 price tag I paid. Would definitely purchase these again. Actually, I may buy another pair before they are sold out of my size. Will probably never see them again at this low price.

These are my second pair of SPD shoes. Ordered them in a size 45 as I am a 10.5 US and they fit just right maybe a little snug. The shoe is more on the narrow side.Coming from the Shimano SH-M089 shoes that had a latch system up top and a cross strap in the middle that would always run against my crank arm these shoes are a significant upgrade.The 3 Velcro strap system really let's you dial in your preferred tightness and they're pretty stiff so you really feel the power transfer.I like the fact that the clear plate is already installed and clear adjustment on these was way easier.I feel like QC on these is a lot better since my last pair of Shimano shoes were just a little off from manufacturing.All in all it's a very simple design meant to work. Would recommend these to a friend and would buy again.

These size 48s were supposedly a size 13.5 when converted to US sizes. I wear a 13 and they were still too short and very narrow. Unfortunately I didn't notice this until my feet swelled after my first ride when they were covered in mud and scuffed so I couldn't return them (my fault). I did get my specific size (48) at around half the price other sizes were listed for on Amazon at least.I have noticed Giro shoes tend to run very narrow, even when listed as regular width like these. I doubt ordering even a full size up would've given me enough width. The sides of the balls of my feet stuck out over the sole by at least 1/2 inch on both sides and my large toes rubbed painfully on the hard toe caps.The cleats sit deep enough that I had to use spacers to be able to clip into my pedals and have some float. Despite the cleats sitting deep in the tread, they still scrape on the ground while walking. I have a few other brands of mountain bike shoes that do not have this issue. I believe this is due to the shape of the shoe and tread curving up significantly in the front.They are well made and seem very durable. The tread is thick and knobby and offers good grip on muddy hills. The soles are nice and stiff for good power transfer. These are definitely XC racing style shoes.I sold these at a significant loss and switched to a more hiking style shoe by Pearl Izumi, which I am very happy with.

I wear an 11/11.5 in NB and Asics, so I ordered a 46, removed the OEM insoles, added a nice aftermarket replacement ($12) pr of insoles they fit perfect! I do this with all footwear. No more tingling toes or sore feet. After approximately 10 hrs of riding, with 3 rides of 2 hrs or more, including some steep uphill pushing on loose terrain, I can highly recommend this shoe for the int-adv mtn biker. Soles are fairly stiff, minimal flex (I don't feel any and weigh 187) but with no heel lift while on foot. I ride SPD 100%, and unlike another major brand, all 3 straps close to the outside, so no need to cut the middle strap to keep it from rubbing your crank arm. There's no crank arm rub with proper cleat placement either. Other than the lack of a marked template for exact cleat placement, I give these shoes a 4.7, rounded up to a 5.

I really dig this shoe! Mostly due to the super high volume that actually fit my crazy wide high arch hobbit feet! Love the BOA laces (no laces). Love the classic style. Only negative is that they are a little unstable walking around... easy to roll ankles (side to side) as they have a narrow tread base.
