Pleasantly surprised!
I ordered this mainly for the vortex manipulator, as I'm putting together a River Song cosplay for a convention this fall. The sonic screwdriver was an added bonus.I was actually pleasantly surprised about this, because it received such mixed reviews. Is it a perfect leather replica of the original? No, but for being rubber/plastic, its pretty dang close. The snaps are high quality and the manipulator has a little blue LED that lights up with the push of a button, which is a nice touch! Batteries (button cell) are included, (as well as with the sonic screwdriver) and I don't foresee having to change them any time soon, seeing as I wont be using the light that often. The unit is a bit big for my wrist, but I also have the same size wrist as my 9 year old cousin, so. It should be noted that the strap is completely removable, so if it is too small for your wrist, it would be really easy to swap out the strap with a larger watch band or something similar! The sonic screwdriver is a bit disappointing, and a good deal smaller than some replicas I have held in the past. It lights up but doesn't make that endearing timey wimey noise that we all know and love. That is neither here nor there for me, though, since I still would have purchased even if it didn't come with the screwdriver.I'm super happy with it, all told, though! I can't wait to see it with my whole costume!

Complete waste of money!
This was advertised as the Tenth Doctor's set, but it's actually the Ninth Doctor's. I bought it for a cosplay and the sonic screwdriver is all wrong (Ninth's had a gray handle, Tenth's had a silver handle). It's also very cheaply made- you could get this for under $20 at any department store, but I paid twice that. The cover of the vortex manipulator is not removable as advertised in the listing, and the photo makes the product appear to look better than the item actually is. It's made from cheap rubber and becomes uncomfortable after wearing for a short period. The biggest letdown is that neither piece in the set make any sound- they just light up a faint blue.I'm legitimately disappointed with this purchase. If you're looking at this item for cosplay purposes, don't waste your money; the seller obviously isn't at all familiar with what they're selling.

Awesome Vortex Manipulator prop
The Vortex Manipulator is an awesome addition to your doctor who cosplay or costume, but over time the silver on the buckle clasp tends to rub onto the strap a little, so I would suggest storing it unbuckled. The Sonic Screwdriver is a bit small but still pretty cool. I ended up using the vortex manipulator and buying a separate 10th Doctor sonic screwdriver to be more realistic, but the Vortex Manipulator alone is still worth the price in my opinion.I bought these for a Halloween costume back in 2013, and even after 5 years plus(mostly sitting on display with minimal use) they are both still work on the original battery. If the screwdriver was a little bigger and the clasps silver paint didn't bleed/rub onto the leather strap I would give it 5 stars. Definitely worth it if you are aware of these things going into it.

Good enough for an inexpensive alternative.
While it's cool to try and be something of an amateur completist Whovian, this is a product that could have greatly benefitted from just a few tweaks. I don't really have a whole lot to say about the mini-me version of the 9th/10th Doctor's Sonic other than it makes a cool little flashlight. There's no sound and it doesn't extend. It's just a fun little toy.Captain Jack Harkness's Vortex Manipulator, though, is another story. It's built pretty well for something that doesn't amount to much more than a kids toy, and that's exactly what it is. However, it doesn't have any sound effects, which is arguably the coolest thing about any of the other licensed Doctor Who merch. You press a button and a blue light comes on and THAT'S IT. I like to do amateur cosplay, and I'm putting together a Captain Jack outfit, but this could have been a lot cooler if they just added that one thing to it. It's big enough to wear on a slim to average adult-size male wrist, and more so for a woman's wrist.Really, though, this could have been really awesome rather than just decent.

Great cosplay item and kids toy!
I am giving this a 4 star review because for what it is, a kids toy, it's really great! It also is a wonderful piece for River Song cosplay, which is what i used it for. It really worked beautiful. Just be careful if you have a larger size wrist.*please note: if you are a serious collector and looking to add this piece to your collection, you will be disappointed in the molded rubber leather and several other features. The sonic is ok. It's on the smaller side but serves it purpose. It is lacking several functions of its larger counter part. So again, if you are a more serious collector, you will be disappointed.

It is what it is.
I want to like this set. I really do but it's just not that great. As has been said in other reviews, the whole set is undersized. Probably 3/4 the size of the originals. The quality on the Vortex Manipulator leaves something to be desired. Aside from the small silver device itself, it's made entirely out of rubber and looks unconvincing as leather. The rubber is also very stiff and doesn't wrap around the wrist as easily as it should. As said before, the strap is short and will just barely fit a man's wrist. The light up feature works fine, so no complaints there. Just don't expect it to do anything else. The sonic screwdriver in the set is the nicer piece in my opinion. While undersized, it is beautifully sculptedand matches the details of the 9th Doctor's sonic nicely. All in all, the set is what it is. I paid $25 for it and I feel it's an ok price. It's a cool set for what it is but falls short when compared to the plethora of other Doctor Who role play toys out there.
