Easy first step for DIYers
I had never added freon to a refrigerator before but have done it many times to my vehicles over the years. This saddle valve system/application works perfectly when installed correctly. My refrigerator was not blowing cold anymore so I thought I had a compressor problem because it never kicked in. Actually, it kicked in and was running constantly, causing the starter to burn up. I replace the starter and then decided to check for leaks and found none. the refrigerator is a sealed system with no place to add freon. A car has the valve system for adding. I saw this valve in use on YouTube and thought I would give it a try.Installation only took a few minutes, followed by adding the freon. The refrigerator is now blowing cold again. Saving me some more money instead of calling a repairman.I am a long time DIYer and only recommend this conversion/installation if you have some previous knowledge with introducing freon to refrigeration systems. I got the part very quickly and it wasn't very expensive.

Leaky piercing valve
Upon receiving this piercing valve, I installed it on the 3/8th inch low side copper line of my rv roof ac as directed, after cleaning a straight section the line to place it. Since the line is 3/8th inch, no adjustment shims included with the valve were needed. Sure enough, my freon pressure was low, so I charged the ac to the proper pressure and it was blowing very cold air again and I was so happy. I closed and capped the valve. The next day, I turned on the ac again, but it was blowing only hot air. Upon checking the freon pressure again, I found the pressure to be zero, and refrigerant oil was all over the line below the piercing valve. Since the pressure was low before I installed the valve, and zero the day after the valve was installed, with oil all around the valve, it is obvious that the valve leaked and allowed all my freon to leak out. Now I am out the price of the valve and the freon and am having to order a new ac unit. I would not recommend this valve.
