My bible
Honestly what more would you want? Charts, written instructions, the whole lot it has it. Amazing for all levels. HOWEVER check the written against the chart as there are mistakes in the written patterns eg: Jubilee page 158 row 12 is wrong, it should be the reverse of what it says.

Lots of quality pattern content however strange notation even for US patterns
This book is beautiful and well worth the full price. Each stitch is meticulously photographed, described and charted. The pictures are good quality showing fine details of the right side and often wrong side of the stitches. There is a full glossary describing the abbreviations used in the book so it is possible to follow for people new to knitting or looking to try a new technique. When I tried to use this book as a source to produce a sampler blanket I was excited to get going having worked out how many stitches I had for each panel however I was unable to make the cable patterns I wanted to start with work because I couldn’t understand the abbreviations, even when I went to the back of the book to glossary if abbreviations - still a complete mystery as to which part of the stitch I was doing, how many stitches to to work or hold and where my cable needle needed to be. As an experienced knitter with more than 45 years of experience and one mansize fisherman’s Aran sweater under my belt I was embarrassed to be stumped by the notation of a common celtic twist design. I then moved on to trying lace designs again stumped by a lot of slipped stitches and yarn forward or yarn backs both knit that seemed to just confuse the whole thing in a seemingly unnecessary way as they had with the cable patterns.I have to admiit except for colour work like fairisle I am completely unable to knit by chart, I have to use the written instructions so maybe other knitters would find them easier and would not struggle like I did but I have yet to use a single stitch pattern from this book successfully but have now completed 8 squares of assorted designs from internet washcloth patterns and 400 knitting stitches book from a different UK author. I have many pattern books for garments, stitches, toys etc, many from the USA (admittedly most are quite old) and have rarely had any issue reading notation from across the pond. I am hoping that this is not a sign that like crochet, knitters in the USA are starting up their own system of notation which will make it impossible to share patterns or auto convert in your mind when swapping between patterns. The common abbreviations have worked for knitters since patterns were first published at scale it would be a shame to start messing with a commonly understood language amongst knitters now in my opinion.

Bible of stitches
This book has iver 800 stitches so plenty of choice. I am knitting blanket squares and as I have not done much knitting for years it's a great book for getting back into it with so many techniques to learn along the way

Great stitch dictionary
Many stitch patterns and are both written and charted if possible. Special stitches have additional description. Very clear and helpful to design own patterns.
