Its a little expensive seeing that it doesn't have alcohol in it. But itsfun. I am a bartender and now a restaurant manager. I was first introduced to seedlip by my alcohol rep. I was intrigued. Being in the industry I like many others have made drinking a habit. But at the end of a long day I find comfort in sipping on a drink. Tea was my go to drink for winter. With summer on the way I am so glad I found this. I like to check myself and give up drinking from time to time. But I still find a need to sip a drink water juice all boring. These non alcohol spirits are awesome. No they don't taste like real alcohol. But they add a little kick to any bring drink and that's the idea. I am still waiting for the whiskey one. I do love whiskey. The tequila one is spicy. The smell alone does remind me of tequila the taste is spicy. But fun. I am really enjoying making Mocktails. There are so many different ways to mix this stuff I am having a blast.

So, Ritual Zero Proof Tequila Alternative... no. Just no. This isn’t simply an insult to tequila or alcohol; it’s an all-out assault on the senses. It’s just wrong. Don’t do it. If you want a tequila alternative, drink ginseng tea or concentrate. The only saving grace is there are zero calories, sweeteners, or any of that. Tried doing a straight shot, and felt worse than any of my early attempts at drinking at a younger age. Tried over ice, and it tasted like the same regret, with a hit of cold. Tried it in the recommended Paloma recipe, and felt like I wasted an off-brand grapefruit soda. The label claims there are ten different flavors, and this is big part of the problem. You can taste each individual flavor separately, none of which made me remotely think “this kinda tastes like tequila” for a second, and for half of them, that’s definitely a very bad thing. The reason peaty flavors like charred or smoked woods work in good liquors is because it mellows into it, where it becomes pronounced without fighting to stand out. This tastes like they added half a bottle of liquid smoke. Granted, when the fruits and floral notes kick in, it’s nice. But they get overpowered so quickly by this blast of black pepper with a charcoal chaser. It tastes nothing like tequila. It doesn’t even come close to watered-down Mezcal. Imagine what Sunny D is to fresh-squeezed orange juice, add liquid smoke and a few peppercorns, and you’ll have a close approximation to how disappointing this is compared to real tequila. I cannot stress this enough: just don’t do it. You would be better off paying someone $25 to slap the tastebuds out of your mouth. And to the folks at Ritual: let me know if/when you come up with formula 2.0. There are serious improvements needed here and I would love to give it a second chance. But in its current state, I can’t even recommend this to anyone I want to see suffer.

Every year I kick off the new year with Dry January. I have never looked for alcohol alternatives before, but with how popular mocktails have become I figured it was worth checking. I came across Ritual Zero Proof and narrowed it down to the whiskey and tequila alternatives and decided I was craving a margarita more than an old fashioned. I just made my first margarita and I am obsessed! I fresh squeezed my juices and added about 2.5-3 oz of the tequila alternative. It tastes amazing. The flavor is not as strong as actual tequila, but I like that about it. It has a smoky taste that reminded me a little of an anejo tequila more than a clear one, but it is very subtle. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for alcohol alternatives

[3.5 stars.] As someone who abstains from alcohol, I am a big fan of the current mocktails trend. I love a festive beverage that reminds me that I don't have to miss out on fun. This was indeed fun to craft a few creative drinks with, but to me it did not do a great job of playing tequila's role in the mix. I fresh squeezed some tasty oranges from the farmers market and added some fresh sliced jalapeño and a lime salted rim for my first journey into this "Agave Spirit Alternative". This product didn't add value, and in fact my delicious juice might have been better off without it. Next, I decided to simply try a small pour over ice. No. The flavor does not stand on its own well, and honestly I am not sure there's any actual agave in the bottle. After that, I added some fresh lime juice plus a little more salt. That was decent and the best combination I've found so far. I doubt I will go through the whole bottle in the 12 weeks from opening that it allows, but I'll keep trying. I do still think this is a worthwhile experiment, and I am grateful for booze alternatives, but this one did not fill the flavor void of tequila or mezcal for my palette.

TEQUILA - not even close! In no universe is there any combination of ingredients that can be mixed with this to make it taste anything like tequila or a tequila cocktail! However, as a non-alcoholic cocktail mixer it is pretty good! If they didn't market this as a tequila alternative I would give it at least 4 stars - still minus one star for price. It's a bit overpriced in my opinion. So how does it taste? To me this tastes like a funky gin with a peppery finish. I assume the pepper is meant to simulate the alcohol "burn" but regardless it is not unpleasant or too overwhelming. Visually, it has the same yellowish tint as a redosado. The aroma is quite flora with a hint pepper, and with a bit of imagination you can almost get the vegetal, earthy notes found in tequila and mezcal (but that's quite a stretch!). Absolutely NO agave notes are present and that's the primary deal breaker for me to be a viable tequila alternative. Mouthfeel is extremely thin. On the palate, the floral notes really stand out, and this is where it reminds me more of a gin than a tequila. Rather quickly the black pepper notes hit and take over the floral notes, lasting for quite a while after. There is also a noticable citric acid sourness that is a bit off-putting actually. The description mentions this is meant to be used as a mixer in cocktails and not to be drank neat, but I still wanted to try it just to get an idea what I'm working with. With some creativity and enough ingredients it is possible to create some decent cocktails with this. Here's an example of one I've come up with that is not too bad... 2oz of the Ritual Zero Proof Tequila Alternative 1.5oz orange juice .75oz lime juice .5oz agave syrup 3 dashes lime bitters 3 dashes orange bitters 5 drops saline Combine ingredients in shaker with ice, shake until well chilled. Strain into rocks glass over fresh ice and top off with Topo Chico lime seltzer. Garnish with a lime wedge. If you're expecting this to replace tequila you will be disappointed, but if you look at it as just another cocktail mixer and apply some creativity I think you can come up with some decent non-alcoholic cocktails with it. I was initially skeptical of of non-alcoholic spirits, but Ritual's Tequila Alternative convinced me there may be something to this new trend. This was the first zero proof spirit I have tried and it has certainly wetted my appetite for more. True fans of Tequila (such as myself) may be mixed on this because - this is not going to be entirely identical to a reposado tequila - but rather a mimic or as close as possible using natural flavoring. However, I strongly encourage everyone to give it a try, especially in a cocktail! Bottle / Packaging - 5/5 First of all, major props to their boxed packages which quite narrowly fit with the bottle to prevent movement from transport to cause damage. The bottle design itself is quite nice and stylish in a minimalist sense. I could easily picture this along side tequilas at a liquor store. The package also came with a booklet and suggested cocktail recipes. Also, very pleased they actually made use of corks. I don't think it was necessary but going the extra mile shows a real dedication to providing a zero proof alternatives for those who enjoyed traditional spirits. Nose - 6/5 Yeah, I am cheating and giving a bonus point but in truth this product deserves it because the nose by far exceed my expectations. It smells close to a tequila with lightly roasted agave and floral notes dominant with freshly squeezed lime. Aromatic peppery notes are present but pleasantly tame. The nose is light and delicate, yet the aromas are quite pleasing. Taste (Neat) - 4/5 The peppery note which was light on the nose plays a more prominent role and forward role on the taste. This was initially overwhelming, but upon additional sips my palate acclimated and the more floral and fruity notes came into play. It reminded me a bit more of a mezcal than a standard blanco or reposado tequila - as there is a far bit of smoke to the taste (which is fine by me!). A touch of sweetness to this product. The flavor of this product is actually fairly decent, although it is clearly designed more for standing up to other ingredients in a cocktail that consumed on it own. If consumed neat, I would recommend lime wedges and salt to balance the flavors. Taste (Cocktails) - 5/5 Here is where this product really shines. I began with three cocktails - Tommy's Margarita, Paloma, and Espresso Martini mocktail with tequila (inspired by Steve the Bartender on YouTube). All three of these drinks were excellent! The "spirit", if properly balanced shines through the drink and plays with all of the ingredients in a manner similar to a traditional tequila. A good tell of quality is that I did not need to alter any ratios to bring out the tequila flavor from the drink, so we have a product that brings about a balanced drink. In fact, for the Tommy's Margarita, my wife initially was unaware that I used the zero proof. For the reasonable price, Ritual have a good quality product that will help people in recovery, or wanting to drink casually without the buzz. For those skeptical, I will say this product, again, exceeded my initially low expectations and I was quite pleasantly surprised. I would highly recommend giving it a try! Good job Ritual! I look forward to trying out your Gin and Whiskey as well!

I'm not sure what the other reviewers drink normally when it comes to Tequila...however when you drink anything that's got any quality at all you will not be fooled in the least from this product. It doesn't smell like tequila at all, and it most certainly doesn't taste like tequila! It is pepper and more pepper. I thought, alright so it doesn't really smell like it should but let's put some oj in with a little taste just to get the idea. I nearly coughed to death! The peppercorns and regular peppers they use to 'fool' you is inundating...it's literally ALL that you taste. My husband had the exact same reaction...he said they do that to make you feel like you've tasted alcohol with that burn...but this isn't a good burn. He simply thought it was disgusting. I thought I'd try it sometime super chilled with some lemon/lime and salt maybe and see if it gets closer, we'll see...but quite honestly it's a big waste of money. And this is supposed to be their best seller..yikes! In the meantime we also bought the whiskey, and that I have to say is much more acceptable. It's still got that heavy pepper vibe but at least it has a bit of bourbon sweetness that can fool you a bit. So putting that one in with some good juice or sparkling water would probably do the trick. We'll see...haven't really given it much thought or time, so bummed out that it turned out to be such an expensive dud!

I accidentally gave up alcohol almost 2 years ago. I say accidentally because I never meant to stop drinking, I just wanted to do a health tune-up. It turned out that my body responded super well to cutting out the alcohol, and a day turned into a week into a month into a year and so on. Sobriety is a slippery slope. You bat an eye and you'll wake up one day all healthy and wondering where the time went. BE CAREFUL. I love tequila. It doesn't make me feel bad. It doesn't give me hangovers. It tastes great. And also a good margarita is like suckling from the teet of the gods. So when I encountered this product I gave it a try. It tastes decent enough, but it tastes like a mixer, not like tequila. They seem to be using some hot peppers to sort of simulate the alcohol, but the earthiness of tequila is missing. It just leaves you wondering how you convinced yourself that this stuff at $30/bottle wasn't an absolute ripoff. The glass bottle it comes in is legit. It looks and feels like the real thing, but that is where the experience ends. Do yourself a favor, drink some more soda water and embrace sobriety, or crack open some real tequila and be happy. This sad desperate impostor isn't worth the price of admission.
