Is it limited to pet hair or is it good for all kinds of dirt?

Just pet hair. ONLY pet hair. Lol!

I do not see any information on the type of charging device, is it a wall plug?

There is a wall plug with a cord and DC adapter type jack that inserts in and out of the vacuum itself. I leave the plug in the wall and when finished insert the adapter to charge.

Do I need to buy a battery charger or does the vac plug in which charges the attached battery? I saw something about an adapter. Am confused.

This model comes with rechargeable batteries already installed and a charging cord. Every thing is included just charge it up and vacuum.

what kind of battery?

Great question, Tracy - this hand vacuum has a NiMH 14.4 volt battery.
