I cannot say about a long dress. I did carry three suits in it and they were fine. Minor wrinkling on the sleeves. Hope this helps.

The strap should be inside the large pocket on the back. If it is not there you can go to the product page where you ordered it and click on the sellers name, it should be highlighted. Then there should be an option to ask the seller a question and if you let them know that there was no strap they should send you one.

I think the material of the outer layer of the bag can probably handle being tossed around in an airplane, but the zippers and such on the inside of the bag will depend on how rough you treat it. I don't think the zippers are of the highest quality but they should still last if you don't treat them too roughly.
